The Board finally folded and agreed to keep the Walker High School name. We forced them to listen after they tried to erase our history for no reason. Keep watching them to make sure they do not try to pull this stunt again.

The Board of Education clearly underestimated how many people actually care about our history. Their attempt to wipe out Walker High School just backfired because this momentum proves we are not going to be ignored.

The BOE/Jasper city council should have given the citizens of Jasper the opportunity to vote on the name change. We WERE given a chance to approve a tax increase to build a new WALKER HIGH school. At least that's what the sign says at the construction site entrance.
Went to walker myself. Last year I was there was 1982. I was proud to be a walker viking then and I still am. Jasper vikings sure don't sound or fell righf. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
Considering Walker High School has been around since 1920 maybe even before I just read that was the athletics department then I say we not be stupid and throw any more money away along with the new building having to come up with a new sign and new class rings and new uniforms for every sport, clubs and band.
My entire family is against this name change. We as citizens ..voters..and taxpayers are sick of our voices being taken away. How about asking those of us who make up your pay- check?
I strongly disagree with rebranding the entire school, and ruining years of tradition. Walker High School is already reputable as a classy school with great athletics and even better academics, and changing the name is uncalled for.
