Robert E Lee was first a Colonel in the Union Army!! Served 32 years in USArmy and fought in Mexican -American War.
His slaves he inherited were freed 5 years after father in laws death per will. 1856 letter to Nary his wife shows he had no use for slavery himself- just a fluke he had inherited. But he did rule the way he was a soldier - with discipline.
Since serving the Confederate only 4 years- he could just be changed In photos back to his Union Army uniform for his decorated service.

Please save what history and memories the school has. The town and the school are not reflections of our nations history. The school has become so much more and has touch more people's lives. Why change the name and ruin so many kids dreams to go to Lee High.

The board should not have full responsibility on whether the name should be changed or not. Midlanders will be taxed, so we should have a say in the millions of dollars that will be spent to make this change. Also to my knowledge 80% of the community voted not to change the name per a poll on CBS7. It's our money / taxes that will go into this change, and already the band just received new uniforms last year, that was a 300,000 bill. We should have the right to vote as a community/ city!!

I am a 1978 Robert E Lee High School graduate and proud of it , my 4 boys went to Lee , 2 of my boys were in football , one of my boys was in the group that won state in 1998 , I was also a Rebellette, this school needs to stay the same, with no name change, , What comes next book burnings?
