We believe that the rich tradition and history of Weequahic High School for the past 80 years must be preserved and passed forward to serve as a catalyst and springboard to inspire a new generation of Weequahic students.
We further request that the plan to eliminate the 9th grade at Weequahic High School be abandoned and that the high school is listed as one of the high schools available to students for the 2014-15 school year.

My father walked these halls decades ago and I refuse to let his legacy disappear because of a bureaucratic decision. I spent the morning walking past those halls and thinking about the generations who walked them before us. The letters coming into my inbox prove that this building is the heart of our community and we will not watch it disappear without a fight.

Cami Anderson must put money into Weequahic High School in order for the school to function. The school can't function without the proper equipment. She is setting this school up for failure and we can't allow her to do this.
This nationally recognized school deserves rehabilitation not elimination. How many high schools today have active alumni associations raising funds for scholarships and helping deserving students to achieve their goals?
the plan will close all three public high schools in the south-west part of Newark - Weequahic, Shabazz and West Side while leaving East Side and Barringer in place. This certainly disenfranchises the residents and young people of this part of Newark!
There is no substantial research evidence that charter schools produce any better results than traditional schools. Rather than changing the model, there is evidence that fixing what exists produces much better results.
Proud graduate and senior class president of the class of 2006, current Varsity cheer coach, and aspiring educator with one semester of college left.... Closing the doors of WHS means closing the doors decades of pride, history, and a legacy know only as Weequahic High School

It would be a shame to phase out Weequahic High School. The school stands as a monument to the many european immigrants that relocated to our area and had there children begin their lives as students at this hot bed of academic acchievments.
