Petition Regarding Eligibility of MCA for M.Tech (Day Courses) in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at Jadavpur University
Subject: Request to Allow MCA to Apply for M.Tech in Data Science / Artificial Intelligence (Day Courses) Through GATE
Our Concerns
MCA students are eligible for GATE in CS, yet JU does not allow them to apply
for the MTech in Data Science and AI
The GATE examination organized by IITs recognizes MCA graduates as eligible for admission into premium technical postgraduate programs in Computer Science, Data Science, and Artificial Intelligence.
However, Jadavpur University restricts MCA students from applying to M.Tech Day courses in the same fields.
This creates a contradiction between national academic standards and JU’s admission policy.
Top IITs and NITs allow MCA & related backgrounds for Data Science/AI M.Tech — why not JU?
Major institutes like IITs, NITs, and leading universities across India allow students with MCA and strong mathematical backgrounds to pursue M.Tech in Data Science and AI.
Jadavpur University, being a premier institute, should align with these national standards and provide equal academic opportunities to deserving students.
Our Request
We earnestly request the authorities to kindly:
Review and revise the eligibility criteria
Allow MCA graduates to apply for M.Tech (Day Courses) in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence through GATE
Provide equal opportunities for all students who are academically capable and qualified as per GATE norms

I support the movement, MCA Students already completed their bachelor degree in different stream and most if them from Mathematics which is giveextra advantage in AI/ML and Data science.
I believe MCA students are highly capable for this course, so they must get a chance if the receive the appropriate GATE score.

I fully support this petition. I am also a GATE aspirant currently in the final year of my MCA, facing the same difficulties, especially in the fields of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.
I fully support this petition. I am also a GATE aspirant currently in the final year of my MCA, facing the same difficulties, especially in the fields of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. Many candidates from private colleges with a B.Tech background are being given opportunities, while MCA students are not, which is unfair. Moreover, several top institutes allow MCA students in these domains, but Jadavpur University does not. I believe this approach is not appropriate and needs serious reconsideration.
It's the most important thing to me right now because I am currently in MCA 1st Year and in 2027 with a valid GATE score I want to take admission in M.Tech in CSE at Jadavpur University
I am a MCA Graduate too...and it's really hilarious to see that some from B.Tech in Biomedical Engineering is also eligible but I am not...How can they judge based on MCA...if they want they can conduct interviews like IITs but how can they just reject..??
