Reschedule Quiz 1 Exam Scheduled on 15th November, 2026.
We, the students of the BS Degree Programme in Data Science and Applications at IIT Madras, respectfully request the administration to reconsider the scheduling of the Quiz 1 examination on 15 November 2026, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, as it coincides with Chhath Puja, an important religious and cultural festival celebrated by millions of people across India.
Why is this important?
Chhath Puja is one of the most significant festivals in states such as Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and parts of other regions of India. It is observed with deep devotion and involves rituals, family gatherings, and community celebrations.
The afternoon of Chhath Puja is particularly significant because devotees gather at rivers, ponds, and other water bodies to offer Sandhya Arghya to the setting sun. The scheduled examination, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, directly overlaps with this important ritual.
For students who observe Chhath Puja, having an examination during these hours creates a difficult choice between fulfilling their academic responsibilities and participating in an important religious and family tradition.
Our Request
We sincerely request the IIT Madras BS Degree Programme administration to:
- Reschedule the Quiz 1 examination currently scheduled for 15 November 2026 to a date that does not coincide with Chhath Puja.
- Alternatively, consider arranging the examination at a time that allows students who observe the festival to participate in its important rituals.
- Communicate any changes well in advance so that students can plan their academic schedules accordingly.
We understand the challenges involved in coordinating examinations for a large student community. However, we believe that considering the cultural and religious significance of this occasion would help ensure that students are not forced to choose between their education and their traditions.

We request the administration to kindly reconsider the Quiz 1 date, as it coincides with Chhath Puja, causing severe travel congestion, delays, and a significant risk of students missing the centre-based CBT exam. A date change would ensure fair and hassle-free participation for all students.
