This petition is signed by the Lee High School Community which includes alumni, community members and students who do not want the name of their school changed. Six decades of alumni ask that the Fairfax County School Board, please NOT rename Robert E. Lee Lee High School in Springfield, Virginia. We all consider Lee “home” and renaming our school would take a piece of our collective souls. The idea of changing the name did not come from within the Lee community, but by the personal feelings of the School Board which should not be the catalyst for change.

One hundred people have stepped up to tell the Board that they cannot just erase our history on a whim. The Fairfax County School Board needs to stop ignoring the community and realize we are not going to let them strip away the name of our home.

I attended Lee HS 1964-1967. I met my wife there in 1964, she graduated from Lee in 1968. I was in the stands to watch her receive her diploma. Don't try to erase our memories from Lee, we will celebrate our 50th anniversary this August. Thank you
Class of 89 here. Both of my parents went to Lee. My husband and I went to Lee and now my daughter is a rising Lancer. Three generations at Lee! Please, if it must be changed, retain "Lee" so that alumni will continue to feel connected to their school! Lancer Pride! Lancer nation!
Class of 1988 - please don’t change the name of our school. Teach history and learn the lessons that need to be learned from it. Changing a name won’t change history. Use the money towards something that will truly benefits the students of the Lee community.
What is the business case supporting renaming Lee High School? What specific benefits resulted from renaming other Fairfax schools and what was the entire cost? What are the projected benefits from renaming Lee and what are the projected costs? What is your basis for those estimates?
My Dad was part of the staff that opened Lee in 1958 and he worked as a Coach, teacher and Administrator until he retired in 1987. Myself and my 3 siblings all graduated from Lee. We are proud alumni. Please leave the name our school alone. Spend money on student development.
changing a name won't change history so please let it alone. You need to teach history NOT ERASE IT.!!!
History is our Legacy! Whether local, state, national or world history. Imagine our world without the song "Amazing Grace" written by a ruthless slave owner who through the grace of God became a champion for slaves! There are numerous wonderful historical people, songs , writings and art that changed our view of the past. Changing a name will never change the past. Always look for the goodness in our history and embrace it. Freedom isn't FREE ! There have been many bumps in the road towards building our incredible Nation. Be patriotic and love America. Study the Constitution , Bill of Rights , Declaration of Independence etc. Change your anger into education! God Bless the U.S.A. Save our Monuments and Statues and remember we shall not have taxation without representation!

Keeping the name the same is the most practical, economic solution. However, if it MUST be changed for some other moral or historical reason, I highly recommend changing it back to the original “Lee High School” which eliminates the unequivocal reference to General Robert E Lee.
