(English version below)

Petition to Maintain the Current Municipal Zoning for Club de Golf Richmond Melbourne
To the Honorable Mayor and Members of the Town Council of the Municipality of Richmond and Melbourne County:
We, the undersigned residents, business owners, and community members of the Municipality of Richmond and Melbourne County and the MRC du Val Saint François, respectfully but urgently petition the Town Council to respect and immediately maintain the current municipal zoning on the Club de Golf Richmond Melbourne property.
The Club de Golf Richmond Melbourne has been a cherished community asset since 1930 — nearly 100 years of recreation, green space, and local jobs. The recent closure of the golf course and restaurant has caused the immediate loss of 14 jobs and harmed our local economy.
The new owners intend to file an application to change the zoning. We strongly oppose any rezoning of this property.
The current zoning must be respected and protected because:
- In 2012, the City Council under Mayor Martel refused a zoning change for part of the golf club, demonstrating that the current zoning has already been upheld in the past.
- The golf course alone (excluding restaurant revenues) generated between $350,000 and $750,000 CAD in annual gross revenue. It also contributed between $40,000 and $120,000 per year in taxes and government revenue (property taxes, sales taxes, etc.).
- It serves as an important recreational space for local residents, including retirees and senior citizens, as well as many visitors from the Eastern Townships, Centre-du-Québec, and Quebeckers on vacation in our region.
- After nearly a century, it has become part of our local heritage and is a valuable green space that must be preserved.
We are convinced that, with a structured business plan, a competent board of directors, a strong marketing plan, and better communication with members and the community, the golf course can once again become viable and sustainable under the current zoning.
We therefore urgently request that the Town Council:
- Respect and formally reaffirm the current municipal zoning for the entire property without delay.
- Deny any application to rezone the land.
- Encourage the new owners to reopen the golf course and restaurant under the existing zoning so we can recover the 14 lost jobs and preserve this important community asset.
We urge the Council to act swiftly in the best interest of the residents of the Municipality of Richmond and Melbourne County and the MRC du Val Saint François by protecting what has served our community well for nearly 100 years.

Losing this course would be a disaster for the seniors community. There are no other options within 25 miles of Richmond. Certainly not within their financial ability. Please reconsider this decision
I am not a golfer myself but this a long preserves green land adds and bring our beautiful region economy benefits and provide people with a beautiful Golf Course to enjoy a sport that many love . Zoning should not be changed to add other condos etc .
In my 50 years it has always been referred to as “the golf course hill”. I have been to weddings, and even played a few rounds catching up with old friends. This is a horrible thing to even consider given the beauty and heritage that this property represents
Tres beau golf! Le monde sont tres aimable!

Preserve the zoning and the heritage of the golf course. We’ve already seen similar situations in Sherbrooke dezoning the little land we have left. Richmond does NOT need more condos
