Petition to the Athens, Alabama City Council in Support of a Multi-Sport Turf Complex

To the Honorable Mayor and Members of the Athens City Council:

We, the undersigned residents, parents, athletes, coaches, business owners, and supporters of the City of Athens, respectfully request that the Athens City Council prioritize the planning, funding, and construction of a modern multi-sport turf complex to serve our growing community.

Athens has experienced tremendous growth over the past several years, bringing new families, businesses, and opportunities. As our city continues to expand, our recreational facilities must grow alongside it. A multi-sport turf complex would be a long-term investment that benefits residents of all ages while strengthening Athens as a destination for sports, tourism, and economic development.

Benefits to Our Community

Supporting Youth Development
A dedicated turf complex would provide safe, high-quality fields for youth soccer, football, lacrosse, rugby, flag football, and other recreational sports. Increased access to quality facilities encourages healthy lifestyles, teamwork, leadership, and positive activities for children and teenagers.

Economic Growth
Sports tourism has become a major economic driver across Alabama and the Southeast. Tournament weekends attract visiting teams, families, and spectators who spend money at local hotels, restaurants, gas stations, retail stores, and entertainment venues.
