Tennis Players, Parents, and Friends:
If you would like to support the construction of a new TENNIS CENTER at Victor Lord Park, then please consider signing and sharing this Petition!
- This will be delivered to the Barrow County Board of Commissioners, before the next BOC meeting.
- We would like to invite all Tennis Players and Parents to join us for this meeting:
TUESDAY, April 9th at 7:00pm
Barrow County Board of Commissioners Meeting Room
Historic Courthouse, Second Floor
30 N. Broad Street
Winder, GA 30680
- There will be a very important vote regarding the new Tennis Center, which should hopefully close the deal and finally begin the construction process. The meeting is open to the public; all tennis players/parents are welcome to attend. We would encourage High-School & Middle-School players to wear their Tennis Team Uniforms, to represent their school.
Your attendance at this meeting is extremely important to show the value of Tennis in our community to the Barrow County Board of Commissioners!
As our Tennis Programs and Community continue to grow in Barrow
County, the plan for expansion at Victor Lord Park should include:
• A new Tennis Center with at least 8 additional Tennis Courts & Pro Shop/Tennis Building
-- The new Tennis Center would be incredibly beneficial for our Tennis
Programs: allowing more court availability for our students to train,
expanding and enhancing our Tennis Classes and Lessons, and creating
more overall space for all tennis players to learn and play.
-- The
addition of 8 new Tennis Courts would also allow for: hosting Tennis
Tournaments, ALTA League Play, USTA League Play, new Pickle-Ball courts,
and School-System purposes.
(Apalachee HS, Winder-Barrow HS, and
Bethlehem Christian Academy would also have more local court
availability for their Tennis Teams.)
-- The ProShop/Tennis Building should also include: Bathrooms, an Indoor Office, Tournament Desk area, and storage areas for tennis balls and equipment.
There’s no question that building a new Tennis Center at Victor Lord Park would be a blessing to the community, and create many more opportunities for our current tennis students, and future generations to come. As our Tennis Programs continue to grow we will undoubtedly need more space for competitive players to train and for recreational players to have space to play. The addition of 8 new tennis courts at Victor Lord Park will also enhance programming and provide more opportunities for league play and tournaments. There is also a major need for more Tennis Courts for Apalachee, Winder-Barrow, and Bethlehem Christian Academy. We already have support for hosting High-School Regional Tournaments, if the new Tennis Center is completed, and this would also allow us to host USTA Tournaments, which would be an economic boost for Barrow County.
Barrow County’s Parks, Recreation, and Leisure Services provide
intrinsic environmental, aesthetic, and recreation benefits to our
community. They are also a major source of positive economic benefit.
Numerous economic studies provide evidence that Parks & Recreation
enhances property values, increases municipal revenue, brings in
home-buyers and workers, and attracts families to live and work within
communities with more parks and recreational opportunities.
The bottom line is, parks are a good financial investment for a community.
Other organizations such as local Barrow County Schools, the USTA, COTA, and ALTA also stand to gain, especially in terms of increased participation. Tennis is a unique lifelong sport accessible to almost everyone, surpassing the boundaries of age, gender, and income level. The addition of new Tennis Courts and the overall expansion of Victor Lord Park’s recreational facilities would indeed be a wonderful opportunity to benefit citizens, while also providing a powerful economic engine for Barrow County.
Our students and local tennis players have waited for many years to see all of this become a reality. We greatly care about the direction of our community and would like to see our leaders respect the majority of citizens who have voted in favor of the full expansion of Victor Lord Park.
We ask that the Board of Commissioners please approve the recommended projects and funding levels for the new Tennis Center in Barrow County.
Thank you for your time and consideration. We truly appreciate your support of Tennis in Barrow County!

The completion of this tennis center would allow USTA tournaments to be held at the complex which would generate revenue.
Our daughter spends four to five nights per week on the tennis courts. Please help keep more kids and adults active by making sure there are always plenty of courts available.
The new tennis center for Barrow County would be very beneficial. It is hard to play adult matches at the current tennis courts because of availability and Aesthetics. Please approve the plan!
I would love a tennis center in Barrow county, as a competitive varsity highschool player I think tennis is overlooked and disregarded in our community and this tennis center would change that stigma and allow for players new and experienced to more easily enjoy the game of tennis
My uncle raised me on this plot of land when it was just corn fields. I think a tennis center would edify the community in better ways than his backwoods still and would assist the youths like my cousin Bishop.
tennis is growing in this community and if you build this, more will come to play, compete, and see what a wonderful place Winder, GA really is!
I’m for a new tennis center!

I would love a new tennis center in Winder I have been driving to Herman C Michael Park in Watkinsville for years. Would love to play closer to home.
