If you have ever been abroad or have watched exercise videos from overseas, you have probably noticed that there's parks with pull-up bars everywhere you look around! However, here in Aberdeen the best thing that one can find are monkey bars in children's play parks which are very limited to what can be done on them.

Areas with pull-up bars would create an opportunity for both young and senior people to enjoy exercise outdoors without having to buy an expensive gym membership. What is more, with parks like these in the open, the younger generation would also be inspired to work towards a healthier lifestyle rather than getting involved in alcohol consumption, smoking and worse.

All in takes to start this off is a very simple setup - a pull-up bar or a few and a set of parallel bars. Perhaps a layer of sand or wood chips on the ground would also be a helpful to avoid muddy and slippery grass.

If you support this idea and would like to see this project be made a reality, then please sign this petition, so we can make ourselves heard.

I’ve been wanting to work out with a bar for ages but I’m only limited to tree branches and monkey bars. We need this in Aberdeen maybe somewhere like Duthie park.

Badly need calesthenics bars. An inexpensive health and wellbeing resource. Crazy that we don't already have some set up somewhere.

No place for youngsters to work out outdoors. Gym is always costly and is not healthy. Would be grateful for a just a single bar!

Pull-up bars and fixed, outdoor workout or calisthenics equipment are certainly needed across Aberdeen. I have seen them regularly used in cities where they are installed regardless of location or climate. Those who use them are enthusiastic about what they do; they often encourage more people to become more active with/without calisthenics. Dip bars, rings, and platforms with various accesses for gripping would also be very useful!

provision for fitness areas in public parks is severely lacking in our area andngiven that we have beautiful outdoor areas it would certainly encourage people to take part. We could all benefit from this and it wouldn't cost the earth to provide them. i think its a great idea and I'm sure I'm not alone

This would be an amazing benefit for Aberdeen as it will promote more physical activity to those that would not have access to gyms due to money reasons. and also help keep the already strong community of practitioners who would make full use of this new facility

We need a calisthenics park! Kind of ridiculous that there isn't one.

Yeah we also need a 20m flat concrete area, so that we can practice running beep tests too.
