Dear Mr Hinchliffe & Mr Cassidy,
My name is Jacob, I’m eight years old and I go to Sandgate state school. I like to ride my bike. Sadly I can’t ride to school or the waterfront because there is no traffic lights at the end of my street and it is very dangerous.
I would very much like to have some traffic lights at the corner of Wakefield St and Brighton Terrace, or at the corner of Brisbane Street and Wakefield Street. This would make it safer for me and my brother and sister to cross the road. Also, my dad has a disability and likes to ride his bike too. The busy traffic means it is very dangerous for him to cross.
There have been lots of accidents on the corner of Wakefield St and Brighton Terrace and I don’t like that. I think some traffic lights would stop people from getting injured.

The feedback regarding safety concerns at these intersections continues to confirm that this is a widespread issue for our community. I am currently preparing a formal request to deliver these signatures to the local council office. Efforts to secure a meeting with the relevant planning officials remain my primary focus.

Really tough for kids to cross these busy roads, especially in the morning traffic. We should be encouraging our local children to ride, walk, scooter to school for health, its a great start to their day. This intersection is really dreadful.
My husband is a cyclist and was run down in the bicycle lane. He is experienced so could avoid death. A child in the same circumstances could not. Please make them safer.
I totally agree Jacob! It's rubbish that it's so difficult to cross the road so you can ride your bike to school, and that your dad has a hard time getting around. Council shouldn't treat people who are driving cars like they're more important than everyone else.
Have stopped and helped at accidents at this intersection many times over the years. Lights would be such a great help.
I have seen so many near misses at this junction and, even as an adult find it daunting to cross here. Completely agree that lights or a pedestrian crossing are essential to avoid someone losing their life - it's just a matter of time if nothing is done.
I support Jacobs petition. Trying to cross Wakefield St as a pedestrian or cyclist is hazardous! My 3 teenage daughters get concerned when they have to cross this road to attend their squad training at Sandgate State School, my girls say that it can be hard to judge speed and distance of vehicles when they're trying to cross this busy road. So many children cross this road to go up to the lagoon, it really needs a crossing. Thanks

I am Jacob’s grandfather and visited many times and I totally support what Jacob has said. Please think of the young and disabled and support him in this quest to help his community.
