We, the parents/guardians/relatives and friends of the students of the Sydney Academy Graduating class of 2017 (and the students of this graduating class), are requesting that the date of our graduation be June 28th. Prior to work to rule, our graduation date was June 28th. This was stated at the early meetings with parents and the safe grad advisors who are Sydney Academy staff. Membertou Trade and Convention Centre was booked by Sydney Academy staff for June 28th /2017 for safe grad following the graduation and not the prom this year. Graduation has since been tentatively moved by administration to June 29th/2017 at 9am. Sydney Academy staff work to contract which can impact the time of day that the graduation occurs. However, work to contract does not affect the date of the graduation. Our families and our students made preparations for the 28th date. There are students who made plans based on the original date and thus, will be gone on the 29th for summer employment purposes and other commitments. There are families from out of town who have made arrangements to be present. There are also time conflicts with other schools, as a result of this, that did not previously exist. Additionally, the parents and the students are requesting that this graduation, the students have all elements of other years: guest speaker and a screen for scholarships. Below is a list of parents/guardians/relatives/friends and students of the Sydney Academy 2017 grad class requesting the change back to the 28th. Out of courtesy and consideration for these families and your students, please provide us with confirmation as soon as possible.
