We, the residents of Alhambra, oppose the demolition of existing single family homes and replacing them with oversized structures that are incompatible with the neighborhood.
A historic 1923 five-unit bungalow court on Marguerita Avenue and an adjacent 1908 historic Craftsman home on Curtis Avenue will be demolished to make way for 11 condo units. This proposed development will:
- Create overcrowding
- Increase traffic.
- Decrease street parking
- Reduce green space and trees.
- Demolish affordable housing units
- Displace families
- Intrude on the privacy of existing neighboring homes
- Destroy historic architecture that makes Alhambra unique
We urge the Planning Commission to keep the residents’ concerns in mind when making a decision on this project. Also, there should be a moratorium on ALL development until a comprehensive Historic Preservation Program is adopted.

The days feel long and the path forward is difficult but we remain focused on protecting our neighborhood character. I’m sick of ugly, cheaply built unaffordable housing units replacing old, beautiful affordable ones! If you’re going to build more housing, put it someplace actually useful, and for people who actually need it!
Please preserve the historical architecture. Also, do NOT build some overpriced apartment complex with $800,000 units. Most people who work in Alhambra can't afford property that expensive.
This is one of the few intact bungalow courts remaining in Alhambra. The fact that the city has not yet passed a preservation ordinance and identified this as a valuable historic resource is unacceptable.
I'm signing this petition because THESE particular properties are UNIQUE, beautiful and have been left in original condition over the years, especially the 5 unit bungalow court. Tearing this down would be ashamed.
Alhambra is becoming overdeveloped. There is already a huge development on Stoneman. There’s one on Bay Street and on Valley and Marengo. We don’t need more. These developments will lead to more congestion, more overcrowding in schools along with the negative environmental impact and decline in quality of life.
please do not destroy these homes

Every effort should be made to preserve Southern California's bungalow courts, and the communities they shelter. It is unethical for politicians to enable the developers who finance their campaigns to evict renters and destroy historic resources and old growth trees.
