One of San Marino’s loveliest historic homes is 1285 Oak Grove, a house built in the Monterey style of architecture in 1930. Currently, plans are being made by developers to demolish this architectural gem. Sham historic reports which deem the house ineligible for distinction (paid for by applicants for demolition), are just a ruse to benefit developers.
It is time for our city leaders-- with the help of true historic resource consultants—to conduct the long-anticipated historic survey and work with the community to determine which of our homes will be recognized as historic resources.
The plans to demolish will not be fulfilled if we organize and oppose the reckless destruction of our architectural legacy. I spent the entire morning reviewing the biased reports pushed by these developers and the inaccuracies are staggering. Seeing the names of neighbors who also value our history on this list gives me the momentum to keep digging into their claims.

Seeing this community rally around Oak Grove makes me feel like we might actually stop the wrecking balls. I spent hours reading your comments today and it is clear I am not the only one who refuses to watch our history be erased for a new profit line.

Not only do they want to raze this home, they want to ram in a huge oversize McMansion that's also over lot coverage allowance and over 30 feet high!! No way can anybody make findings for that.
Anyone who wants to raze these historic San Marino homes needs to take two field trips: one to Arcadia, and one to the historic district of an East Coast town of their choice. Adding on the environmental/waste factors, it seems to me that there's very little argument to be made for permitting the destruction of San Marino's legacy homes.
Please keep the character of San Marino These homes have lasted decades and will continue to last is not destroyed. In addition to saving our neighbourhoods, saving these homes will preserve the planet. Every time one of these perfectly good homes is razed, the materials end up in landfills, unnecessarily.
The city needs a legitimate, qualified reviewer for the historic reports. Otherwise staff is just reading paid opinion pieces that steer decisions by dismissing significant characteristics of these older homes that can no longer be duplicated and reflect the best practices of their time.
I lived next to this house for 29 years, when it was owned by the Jagels family. It is a beautiful Monterey Colonial. It would be a tragedy if it was torn down.
Historic homes are irreplaceable. San Marino will lose its unique character unless it enacts and enforces some protections against their loss.
Three generations of my family were raised in San Marino. Where is the city council and planning commission to stop this disaster.

I absolutely oppose the demolition of this historical home. I have lived around the corner from this architectural masterpiece for over 30 years and it would be an absolute shame to have this home fall into the hands of some big developer who has no regard for preserving this special home.
