The city finally agreed to stop the trapping and will start installing flow devices instead. I keep picturing the beavers safe in our wetlands and I am just so relieved that we saved them. We will be right here watching to ensure the new policy is followed correctly.

Beavers are important to our wetlands. There are ways to control flooding that do not destruct beaver dams. Right now, the City of Kingston's policy is to hire a trapper to kill beavers. Other cities such as London, Ontario, do not. They install flow devices to prevent beaver dam flooding. This petition urges Kingston City Council to begin using humane, non-lethal flow devices to resolve beaver dam flooding. There is an expert in Boston. He taught staff in the City of London how to install these flow devices and if the expert came to Kingston, he could teach the City of Kingston staff too.

Watching this count climb reminds me of the afternoons I spent by the creek watching those kits play before the traps arrived. We are nearly at one thousand signatures and hitting that mark will force the city to finally acknowledge our demand for humane flow devices.

The City of London has hired an expert to show how to install flow devices that are humane and non-lethal. Beavers are vitally important to our wetlands. Please reconsider the use of lethal traps. I would contribute to the cost of bringing the expert from Boston!
I'm no bleeding heart but to put traps and kill them is so cruel. Especially when they likely have young ones at this time of year. Hire professionals to get the flow going under the beavers hones. This is the right thing to do.
This is a band aid solution that will cause a lot of suffering. Kits stay in the lodge with parents for the first year at the least. There is a solution that will take some preparation and deals with Beavers in a humane way. Lisa Osanic has the right approach to get help.
As a taxpayer in Kingston, I strongly urge the City of Kingston to stop the trapping which is cruel and inhumane. Install a flow device like London Ontario and set a good example of how to coexist with our animal neighbours especially with our Canadian symbol, the beaver!

Killing beavers has no logic at all, it seems to stem from pure hate.

I live in Kingston. Drowning beavers is cruel and if there is a way that dams do not inhibit stream flow, then yes, install flow devices instead. It is the 21st century. Killing animals for our convenience should be ancient history.
