Dear Mairesse Catherine Fournier,

After the recent brutal police killing of a deer who was shot 13 times, please have the Animal Rights group Sauvetage Animaux, Montreal SPCA, mobile veterinary clinic, or a wildlife rehabilitation facility attend to calls regarding wildlife, instead of police.

Please also end the deer cull. Culls are the most ineffective, cruel, and laziest approach to wildlife management. Every animal killed leaves room for more to move in. Conflicts with humans are almost always linked to humans feeding the animals. I recall many years ago, a similar deer cull was proposed in Hamilton/Ancaster, Ontario. People complained about "too many" deer. There were never "too many"; it turned out people were feeding them behind a retirement home, so the deer were congregating in one spot. Thankfully, a cull never happened, and now the City of Hamilton has a wildlife feeding ban. Wildlife feeding bans that are well enforced, along with public education, are the only effective ways to live with wildlife.

STOP THE CULL. my god its 2024 why are we still doing this stuff? educate the people who feed the deer instead of just killing them. so cruel.

13 times is absolutely insane. police have no business handling wildlife calls. find someone who actually knows what they are doing before more innocent animals die.
