Five of eight freshwater turtle species in Ontario can be found in Kingston including the Eastern Musk Turtle, the Blanding’s Turtle, the Northern Map Turtle, the Snapping Turtle and the Midland Painted Turtle. These turtles are all classified as species at risk and are highly vulnerable to road-based mortality. Help protect the turtles by signing the petition advocating for the placement of exclusion barriers at Highway #2 (Westbrook/Collins Creek) where turtle road mortality is remarkably high!

One thousand people have signed to demand action at Highway 2. The Ministry of Transportation is still ignoring our turtles while they get crushed on the asphalt, but they cannot ignore a thousand signatures slamming their inbox.

I have seen turtles laying their eggs around my neighbourhood in Kingston, and I know a lot of those eggs get damaged by people. We need to protect these turtles!
We certainly need a barrier and a tunnel. Also, drivers need to not tailgate. The driver in the front will see the turtle, but not the tailgater!
This is a heavily travelled area and one that is also highly vulnerable wetland with lots of at-risk and endangered turtles crossing. Exclusion fencing should be mandatory in such sensitive areas
Exclusion barriers should be standard practice for all roads that intersect provincially significant wetlands particularily those in high traffic areas.
Turtles shouldn't be dying on roads. As a Queen's student, I believe that the Kingston community should place exclusion barriers in this kill-zone to help prevent more needless death!
Help are turtles there living creatures to we need to stop throwing trash on seas
I love all creatures & critters and personally have saved turtles from being killed in the roads by moving them out of the road.

Seems like a very low cost and efficient way of protecting a species that's at risk which won't negatively impact anyone - not sure why it wouldn't be done.
