Protect the only Recreational Site in Homer! Keep the designated use of the Old Middle School Site for school and community purposes!
We, the City of Homer residents and surrounding community members, petition the City of Homer City Council and the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly members to maintain and dedicate the property (Parcel number 17510070) known as the HERC (Homer Education & Recreation Complex), formerly Boys & Girls Club or the Old Middle School for Recreational, Cultural and Educational purposes as the intended and preferred use for greater benefit of the community. The facilities, classroom space, gymnasium, green space, skateboard park and basketball court are important and essential to the well being of the community and desired to be preserved, upgraded and used for current and future activities for community members of all ages.

My kids use the gym all the time during the winter months. We really need this place to stay open for the community.
Fix the roof and leave it for public use. It makes no sense to sell off the only gym we have.
DONT TEAR IT DOWN. We barely have any indoor spots for sports in town anyway.
There is no shared use gym that I know of. Go to the meeting on October 8th. It is an Open House for Site selection, where we will be informed that the Old Middle School parcel is the only choice being considered. That was decided at the last meeting
The HERC is the heart of the neighborhood. Keep it for the kids!

I have only just discovered the HERC gym. My son is 2 and a half and I would love to bring him to the playgroups and many other activities that HERC offers.
