Be it known that the following signatories, who are stakeholders that live, work, or go to school in the community of Hermon, do kindly request that LA City Councilman José Huizar continue his support for the Hermon community in their desire to preserve Hermon's historic school site (625 Coleman Avenue Los Angeles CA 90042) for educational use. This site has been used for educational purposes since 1903, and it's current owner is attempting to obtain permission to sell the property for non-educational purposes.

The history of this property can be found at
http://www.hermonla.org/Hermon/History.html.

[IMPORTANT: When signing petition, enter "Your First & Last Name - Street Address' in Hermon for either your home, your business, or school address (example: John Doe - 6100 Monterey Rd, #1B). Must be at least 15 years old to sign petition.

the hill, history, purpose, symbol - each and all define Hermon as a place that embraces, protects, and enriches in mind and spirit. nice people can move in to crowded condos and change the heart of Hermon - and remove one more special area from the history and variety within Los Angeles

This property defines the community of Hermon to this day and should not be sold for a housing development.

In 1903 the Hermon community was pioneered by families that came, most at great sacrifice, from all over the U.S. to give their children a superior education at the brand new Los Angeles Seminary. The school name has changed over the years, but not the goal of providing excellent education. This property is and has been one of the most valuable and fought for sites in Hermon - not for it's value of land, but for it's value of young people's futures. It's prepared and sent students on to train in every field, not only having a positive influence in our community but having an impact on communities literally around the world. Los Angeles International Charter High School now has 95% of their seniors accepted into 4-yr. colleges and universities. Most of these students come from low-income households and usually they're the first in their family to go to college, some the first to graduate from high school in their family. Our community's privilege of opening a real door for these students who work hard to have successful lives and careers that can change lives can never be extinguished. Condos and houses will never replace the importance Hermon recognizes and will fight for in this place - education and the betterment of our neighbors in Hermon and beyond.
