This petition is for saving Burchell High School from getting turned into a traditional school. It was founded by Peter Burchell to be an alternative high school so that students in the valley could be successful on their own schedule and time with the help of the awesome staff. The district wants to make it traditional, and if they do that, well then the drop-out rate will go up, and there will be less successful people in our school district.

This school is the only thing that kept me afloat. The help I got, the wonderful staff that encouraged me to push myself and not just give up as I had before. It was so nice knowing that I was more than just a number in the school system. I felt appreciated and cared for. The teachers didn't just care about a pay check, they wanted to help us achieve our greatest goals. If it were not for this school, who knows where I would be at this point. Probably a long lost dropout. Everyone, no matter their situation, deserves to have a school like Burchell! Thank you such much Burchell and staff.
Tish wasn't just a teacher. She was an extremely caring person. She didn't do it just for the money, she did it for the students. She was always there to talk with someone about what was going on with them, even when she had her own stuff going on. She always helped motivate others, and cared for her students so much. We can't find a lot of teachers like that, we need her to stay there, for the sake of the school.
This school is hands down a life saver for many kids in the valley. Not only for education but for kids who don't have enough clothes, food, ect.. they help kids in hard times and circumstances they can't control.
Burchell was made for kids who had trouble in traditional schools. We aren't mainstream. Keep it that way.
It's very counter productive to take a system that works and try and replace it with something that has been shown not to work.
I live in Maine but I know 2 of my granddaughters have gone there and done amazing !
Burchell deserves only the best to make the best. A school of second chances, and a home to many...burchell will always be a part of my lifes story...

I have a granddaughter who is currently attending Burchell and is doing great with her studies. This alternative school has been a blessing for her to help her get strong motivation and direction in completing high school plus hope for entering college. Please save Burchell as an alternative school!
