As many of you know the administration and the district are considering getting rid of Argonne’s bump-year kindergarten class next year. This would have substantial impact on our school, including teacher layoffs, a smaller budget for our students, and a smaller Argonne community. I have been staring at the draft of my letter to the board for three hours and the silence from the district side is just making me pace around my kitchen more. It feels like they are waiting for us to stop paying attention but I keep thinking about how much those kindergarten years actually change the trajectory for these kids.

Why would the administration and the district, arguably staunch champions of public education, willingly restrict, reduce, and squander the educational rights of the communities' students that the parents are funding? Furthermore, one wonders why the community was informed of the "process" at the last minute? The parents are wholeheartedly willing to find a solution to continue Argonne's educational excellence. We are hopeful that the administration and the district will act in the best interests of the community.
Both my sons attended Argonne from kindergarten to 5th grade. To this day we are happy with Argonne and its staff.
My concern about the changes being made without the parent community since we are a Parent associated school community as many are in SF. SF should NOT be taking away anything without properly hearing out all potential options that may work for our school. I'm further disappointed about SF politics and our mayor for not doing anything to help...save the teachers and children!
SFUSD needs to work closely with parents, teachers, students and staff to come up with a viable solution that supports the need of the Argonne "Community" - which means not laying off our teachers, not reducing our incoming student numbers, preserving the quality of our current student education and proactively seeking input from those most impacted.
The bump class is part of a larger educational ecosystem that works great. Don't disrupt what works so well for so many kids and their families!
I am strongly against changing the school to get rid of the class/teacher and to change the schedule to a conventional school year.

Don't needlessly take away the opportunity for 22 families in the neighborhood from attending a great school like Argonne. It has been going strong and successful as is for decades.
