This is a petition to stop the commercialization of our beautiful coastal town, Blue Hill Maine. As a town, we are currently at a crossroads. Will we let big corporate businesses like "Family Dollar" infiltrate our little oasis? Will we become a grey, sunken, town with failing local businesses who cannot compete with national chains? No. We will not. We must come together as a community and fight for our neighbors, for the future of our town, and for the brave men and women who have dared to start their own small businesses here. By condoning the opening of "Family Dollar," we are not just allowing one big business to come in and disrupt south street. By agreeing to let them open up shop, we are allowing them to destroy the local business that are already in place, and to snuff out the soul of our hometown. Stop the development, stop the commercialization, save our unique and historic coastal town.

By signing this petition, you are asking the town to deny the developer permission to build, as well as requesting the creation of a more comprehensive list of ordinances (and or creation of a zoning board) that would protect our home in the years to come.

We do not need a Dollar Store in our town. What about a Super Walmart? We don't need that either. South street can be a pedestrian friendly place with people-size businesses, slow moving traffic and a safe neighborhood for all.

I am concerned about the destruction of America's smaller communities by large retail chains. We must cherish the unique character of these towns, not turn them into cookie cutter places that no one will want to visit and where no one can make a living.

Blue Hill has a beautiful, strong, unique community with many thriving small businesses and a wonderful feeling of community support. There are several other towns in the area with a Family Dollar, let Blue Hill stay the unique way that it is.

I'm no snob but I spent a few years living in Blue Hill. I have amazing memories. I can't imagine driving through such a quant town and seeing a red and orange Family Dollar sign. There's a small drive to the town of Ellsworth. Makes zero sense.

Blue Hill has such potential, and we could be sitting on a gold mine of tourist dollars with 'destination potential'. The current direction is devaluing my town, and as a resident and parent it sickens me.

I grew up in Blue Hill and other small Maine towns. I've lived in several states since then and seen the damage corporate chain stores do to local, small-business based economies. I urge Blue Hill to block this development and create a zoning board and zoning regulations with significant input from local citizens.

These stores do not make a place that people want to move to or visit and they export money from the local economy. Refuse to buy from there and dunkin donuts and prevent an Ellsworth High Street in Blue Hill.
