A proposal to amend the 2006 Town Plan of Conservation & Development is on the agenda for the June 5th Planning and Zoning meeting. The zoning changes proposed are a type of spot zoning.
They would allow Commercial Sales and Services, via Special Permit, in an SB zone, but only if, in addition to the existing standards for approval for a Special Permit, the following requirements are met:
1. The property is served by public water and sewer;
2. The property is at least three acres in size;
3. The property is within 1000 feet of the Central Business District (CBD). (The complete text of the proposal can be viewed at http://darienct.gov/services/planning/ProposedRegs%2003212007.pdf.
This proposal is designed to allow a Whole Foods Market to exist in an SB zone. It precludes, however, Commercial Sales and Services in most SB zone lots. It also \"opens the door\" for other \"big box\" retailers to locate in Darien.
Help protect the residential character of Darien. Act before it is too late.
1. Sign this petition to stop spot zoning and \"big box\" stores coming to Darien.
2. Send this petition to your Darien friends who also desire to preserve the residential character of Darien.
Please, do it today. There is little time remaining.
The massive surge of support proves that Darien residents are onto the corrupt games being played by the planning board. These bureaucrats cannot ignore the tidal wave of opposition we have built against their attempts to sell out our town to corporate giants.

Whole Foods can find somewhere else. Our streets are already falling apart and too busy.

Keep Darien a home town not a strip mall. We have enough traffic already without adding more.

NO big box stores! This town is going to turn into every other generic place in ct if we let this happen.

Stop the spot zoning. It is unfair to everyone else.

This is ridiculous. Leave the zoning alone. My property value is going to tank if some massive warehouse moves in next door.
