We believe that center of town symbolizes our values. It's the 1st thing people see when they come into town.
We believe the views of the mountains are of value to our town, both aesthetically and in terms of the revenue generate by visitors to our town.
We believe a large corporate store on the center property in town would do irreparable harm and have a negative impact for generations to come.
We believe the loss of our town charm and identity will harm small businesses and increase the number of vacant shops and For Sale signs in the historic downtown.
We ask our leaders, our mayor, and our aldermen and alderwomen to look to our future and the long-term negative impact of big chain stores in the center of town.
We ask our leaders to set up deed restrictions to protect that property, to assure that any commercial development be compatible with existing architecture in size, scope, and design.
We ask our leaders to include deed restrictions which set aside a portion of the property for a public space at the main town intersection which would assure the mountain vistas are preserved and which would include plants, benches and other features.
We ask our leaders to include deed restrictions that stipulate that any commercial development include public parking spaces for our town visitors.
We stand united in opposition to Walgreen's our any other chain store becoming the center of our town.

I honestly never thought we would reach one hundred signatures on this so quickly. It truly shows how much this community cares about keeping Black Mountain special. This is all thanks to you and your willingness to help protect our home.

I have been spending my evenings reading through the stories you all are leaving about what this town means to you. It is truly humbling to see how much we all value these mountain views. I am currently working on gathering these thoughts to present to the town leaders so they can see the human side of this issue.

Total garbage. Why ruin the best part of our town for a pharmacy? Keep the local shops alive.
what a terrible location for that store. traffic is already bad enough without adding more congestion right in the center of main street.
My family has lived here for 30 years and we hate this idea. Please dont let them destroy the downtown vibe.
Support local business!! Big chains just suck the life out of small towns like ours. Glad people are fighting this.
Keep Black Mountain unique. We dont need another ugly corporate box store ruining the view. People come here for the charm not for walgreens
