You may be aware that Black
Rock (the owners of Clifton Down Shopping Centre) are intending to build student accommodation comprising 93
units over 5 floors in the vacant car park adjacent to 79 Alma Vale
Road (behind the back of Clifton Down Shopping Centre).
This petition is created to OBJECT the proposal.
Why we are planning to object:
1. We believe there should be an appropriate ratio
of students to non-students living in this area in order to preserve the
current demographic diversity, in order for all residents, including
students to enjoy living here.
2. The Residents Associations and their members have
always welcomed students here. However we believe that the scale of the
proposed development is inappropriate for the area. A low-rise small residential
property would be more suitable.
3. There will not be any on-site parking for the
residents of the new block or their visitors.
4. Increased noise and traffic will be inevitable;
especially troublesome for those living very nearby.
5. They are planning to install "proper
lighting outside of the property for safety reasons". "Proper
lighting" for that size of the property means unwanted light
pollution in a quiet residential area.
Unless local people object, this development will go ahead unopposed. Please make your voice heard!
I have spent the last few days reviewing the local planning details to better understand how this structure will impact our daily lives. While the developers proceed with their plans, the accounts shared here remind me that we are defending the specific character of our residential community. Silence from the owners does not mean we should stop questioning the scale of this project.

Reaching this level of support confirms that the concerns regarding the scale of the proposed development are shared by many in our neighborhood. This momentum strengthens our position as we prepare to present our collective thoughts to the planning authorities. Your commitment to preserving the character of Alma Vale shows how much we value the balance of this community.

I I would object to any planning application, the scale of the suggested development is not in keeping with the quiet residential area of Alma Vale.

A significant increase in the number of students living in this area, which already accommodates a large student population, will almost inevitably lead to a deterioration in relations. We have worked hard to establish the existing excellent relations.

The number of students in this area is too high already and the residents currently suffer on evenings with drunken behaviour in the early hours, I feel that this development would only serve to exacerbate this further.

This is outrageous - parking is already next to impossible for local people, who have to compete with people who work on whiteladies road for spaces. The nature and demographics of the area need to be taken into account . It's a quiet area with many elderly people.

I agree with the comments - the density of the proposed development is a concern and there is very little amenity space provided. We already suffer with refuse on the streets of this conservation area - and cannot see that this proposal will enhance the environment for current residents.

As very close neighbours to this proposed development we object on grounds of difficulties in parking, tipping the balance of diversity towards a student heavy population and potential increased light and noise pollution.

This proposed student accommodation is totally unsutable for this area and this road. I strongly object.
