A planning application has been made to convert yet another family home on Albany Road into 4 two bedroom flats. This is a huge overdevelopment of the site and residents living nearby believe will have an impact locally in particular on services, parking etc as well as direct impact on immediate neighbours in terms of light and privacy. There appears to be a trend in these conversions that the council are approving. This petition is objecting against the plans at 225 Albany Road but is far wider reaching in terms of the longer term impact of conversions on Albany Road.
We have been told that if we can get a petition of 50 signatures of residents who are on the electoral roll we can speak at the committee considering this application.
We have support of an AM, MP and local councillors but this may not be enough to prevent such overdevelopment.

The council thinks they can ignore our neighborhood but the momentum behind this petition is proving them wrong. We have finally earned the right to look these planners in the eye and demand they stop destroying our street.

This goes against the council's Local Development Plan which states there are already insufficient family homes compared with flat conversion.
I used to live on Albany Road until a year ago, and the area is already struggling to provide sufficient parking, bin storage spaces etc for the residents. These are family homes, and should be maintained as such.
I live on nearby Connaught Road in one of the very few unconverted houses. I really wish fewer of them had been turned into flats. With a few exceptions, the landlords are just trying to make a quick buck and don't look after the properties. The residents are usually short term and have no incentive to look after the place especially since their landlord doesn't. We need a higher percentage of owner occupied houses in the area to keep the community going.
I totally object to the application to turn this family house into a property of multiple occupancy. The extra bins, parking required, noise pollution and litter generated would degrade the area further.
The dynamics of the area are likely to change with the increase of more flats. The area benefits from a cohesive community and single person flats could be perceived as contributing little to this
Too many family houses being converted into flats causes parking issues, refuse issues, often noise pollution and inevitably changes the character of the area.
We need to prevent excessive building of flats in this area.
