The shelter is being reinstated at the Woodlands Pool. Sports Singapore officially confirmed the reversal after seeing the intensity of our feedback. Keep an eye on the facility to ensure the work begins as promised.

After gathering voices from the public and regular patrons, we have decided to start this petition with regards to the removal of shelter at the competition pool at the Woodlands Swimming Complex.

We are dismayed at the Sports Singapore's decision to remove the shelter. This badly affected majority of the patrons, we already had it for so many years and we thought it was being brought down for maintenance, never did we expect it to be gone for good!

How can this happened?? It is known that the Earth is suffering from the effect of Global Warming and it is in fact getting worse every moment which may cause other health problem like skin cancer and other skin related diseases. There is high medical cost attached to cancer related to skin problems, also in view of the UV getting higher each year due to the damage ozone layer , it definitely do harm to everyone, especially those younger kids. We sincerely hope the authority can consider our request very seriously as to put back the shelter.

Sports Singapore's vision for 2030 is to use sport as a strategy for Singaporeans to have a healthier and better life through the impactful experience of Sport. Now even our one and only shelter was being removed, does it really make sense. Healthier??

Who are affected?

1) Those who always come for a short exercise during their lunch break, no longer able to enjoy this healthy lifestyle again.

2) Elders who used to swim at odd hours (8-9am, 11-2pm), trying to avoid the crowd, now got to swim in the evenings to avoid the harmful direct Sun.

3) Those who are having their training programs, are getting serious sunburn.

4) Kids suffering from Pityriasis Alba are the real sufferers as not only the itch got worsened, the patches appeared more prominent due to the sudden tanning of the surrounding skin. After seeing doctor, they were told to temporary stop swimming to avoid direct Sun.

We just want our voices to be heard so that we can have our shelter back. We did not expect a fully sheltered/covered pool but please just let us have what we already had for so many years, do not take it away like that. There is still a whole lot of us who appreciate the shelter we had all these years. Even though only one-third of the pool is sheltered but please trust us that it is really better than having none.

We, the undersigned, support a replacement of the shelter at the competition pool of Woodlands Swimming Complex.

We would like to have the shelter back as it is a very useful to the swimmer when they taking a break @ the pool side. In view of the UV getting higher each year due to the damage ozone layer , it definitely do harm to our young swimmers' skin , hence would like to urge the relevant in charge to put back the shelter as before .

Many other estates here in Singapore have indoor pools nicely covered and sheltered whereas in Woodlands, we only have that one and only 1/3 sheltered pool. It doesnt make sense to have it remove in the first place. Do put it back for safety and health of the patrons.

Pls put back the shelter. Else early morning and late evening onwards will be very crowded because all people will go on this time no one will go during noon time. For the sake of our health, please....
