FROM: The Kids of Durham, NH, and Surrounding Towns
July-August 2013
WE THE KIDS of Durham and surrounding towns have grown up learning how to swim and having fun at the UNH/Durham Outdoor Pool. Some of our parents and grandparents even learned how to swim at this pool! We love having a shallow area where the kids can play. We love the tradition of having to pass swim tests to get into the Perch, Salmon, Shark and Whale sections. In the summer, the pool is where we meet our friends. It is where we go with our families to swim, cool off, or have a picnic. The pool is one of the things that we look forward to every summer. Even people who attend UNH, work at UNH, or have graduated from UNH enjoy the pool and bring their kids there. Many summer camps and UNH groups depend on the pool to have a place for their campers and students to swim outside. Many memories lead back to times we had at the pool. When we grow up, we want to be able to bring our children and grandchildren to the pool to have fun and swim and create new memories. If you make the pool smaller or cover part of it so it is shaded (and the water is even colder), we won’t be able to enjoy it as much. If you tear down the pool, lots of people will be sad at the loss of it. We ask that the pool be kept just the way it is so that we can enjoy it for many summers to come. Thank you!
I have been reviewing the testimonials shared in the comments section and remain moved by the historical importance of this pool to our community. These accounts demonstrate that this facility is far more than a simple recreation space. Preparations are now underway to present these signatures to the Town Council as proof of our collective commitment to preserving this tradition.

Spent every summer day there as a kid. Such a shame to even think about changing it.
