Dear KRE Group,
Covid-19 has devastated the American economy and many residents of Jersey City’s KRE buildings have either lost their income or had it substantially reduced, and even those of us who retain employment are unsure of what the coming months will mean for our future employment. Some of us have been asked to take pay cuts while others are expecting the same or even worse like layoffs at organizations we work for. There are also some startups, small enterprises and entrepreneurs in our community who are also severely impacted financially. We all know that we are bracing for a prolonged recessionary environment through 2020 that will impact everyone financially.
Meanwhile, the US Government has passed an economic stimulus package that will benefit businesses like KRE but most residents of KRE buildings will see little or no benefit.
As residents, we fully support the staff who work 24x7 in all the buildings to ensure we are safe and secure. We as residents also want to ensure that their livelihood is not impacted. Similarly, we would also expect KRE management to support us tenants by temporarily reducing rent during this unprecedented crisis.
Over one hundred (and counting) 225 Grand residents have already signed a similar petition that can be found here. We now invite all our fellow renters at other Jersey City KRE residencies.
Accordingly, we the undersigned renters at KRE residencies including:
- Grove Pointe
- Journal Squared
- 485 Marin
- 235 Grand
- 18 Park
hereby request that KRE reduce our rent payment by 20% while the shelter in place order remains in effect in NJ and NY.

I have spent my evenings reading the messages you left about your own lost wages and the anxiety of living through this payout uncertainty. Your stories prove that we are all carrying the same heavy burden while management remains silent about our future.

Seeing so many of my neighbors step up has been overwhelming because it shows we are truly in this together. This momentum proves that our struggle to keep our homes is felt by everyone living in these buildings. I am encouraged by how quickly our community is finding common ground during such a difficult time.

Many of us are being furloughed and are just laid off. I am waiting everyday to find out what will happen next to me and it is very scary. At least temporarily lowering rents would be so kind during a time that this world has never seen and we have lost so many in this area. The employees who work in the building are so dedicated and have been on the front lines. I work in medicine and may not have a job tomorrow. Most of my colleagues have gotten pay cuts or laid off altogether. It would be amazing to see this community really come together.
I lost my job as the position requires on-site resources and equipment and as such I cannot work remotely
Absolutley! And the amenity fee should be refunded as well. The governor passed a law in NJ that allows for tenant's security deposits to go towards rent payments, you can direct the landlord to do so and they MUST comply.
Issues that need to be addressed are credits or refunds for amenity fees. How about a lease re-negotiation or in turn enabling those to end their lease so as to not default and go in arrears. Also advising residents and staff if any other residents are ill in adjacent floors to test if they were in contact with them during the incubation period without violating privacy there is a way to at least let people know to be proactive and not make it worse.
I have been with the Journal Squared building since its opening. Given KRE has received several benefits from the city of Jersey City, management should seriously consider proactively providing rent relief/ reductions in this environment where financial hardships are inevitable for most of us and the building amenities/ facilities are not at full potential.
Just another way to fleece money out of tenants. The KRE group is a real parasite

18 Park View avenue. I think its unkind and cold that the building is still sending an auto-drafted rent request with NO mention of COVID or any finical struggles!
