Final supporters
We the undersigned residents of East Boston support the renaming of East Boston Greenway to Mary Ellen Welch Greenway, in recognition of the tireless community leader who fought for justice all her life. She advocated for green open spaces passionately, and we hope that, bearing her name, the Greenway will not only continue to serve the community in many ways but also inspire generations to come.
Petitions are part of the Boston Parks and Recreation Departments’ park renaming process. This online petition is just part of the outreach for the renaming proposal which has involved presentations at all the surrounding neighborhood associations and more, and has been met with near unanimous support. The paper petitions have over 200 signatures.

The momentum behind this effort is heavy and real. It is exhausting to keep pushing through the bureaucracy but seeing this level of public backing for Mary Ellen keeps me moving forward.

YES! She spent her whole life fighting for our neighborhood. It is the least we can do.
She was always there for us at the meetings. Truly earned this honor.
Perfect way to remember her. She truly loved this park and the people here.
Mary Ellen did so much for Eastie. Keep her memory alive with this rename.
