The suit is officially dismissed and honestly I am still reeling because it feels like sanity finally prevailed regarding the patio program. It was never really about a conflict of interest in my opinion but rather just people trying to make life harder for someone actually trying to help local …

We are starting this petition as a show of solidarity for Councillor Mike Weibe. Mike has dedicated his time to the betterment of the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood as a local businessman, as a Chairman of the Mount Pleasant BIA, and further on as a member of the Vancouver City Council.

Mike is currently being persecuted for his hand in championing a city-wide emergency patio programme that allowed restaurants, breweries and cafés in Vancouver to extend their operations outside and create temporary patios during this pandemic, and has allowed businesses to continue operations in unprecedented circumstances. Mike was accused of a conflict of interest as he owns shares in the restaurant 8 ½, and Portside pub. We suggest that there was no conflict of interest as the program was broad and city-wide, and open to over 2500 establishments. We feel that if such a narrow view of conflict is enforced it could dissuade business people from serving on City Council.

We feel that this suit should be dismissed as frivolous, and without merit. Please sign our petition and show your support for Councillor Mike Wiebe.

We are creeping up on that first hundred and it honestly feels like people are finally noticing how ridiculous this conflict of interest thing really is. If everyone just sends the link to a few folks who might actually care about local businesses we could hit that goal before the day is out and hopefully make the folks at city hall blink.

The patio extensions were pretty much the only positive thing to come from this pandemic. I hope local restaurants are able to have them every summer. Mike Wiebe was just doing what is best for this city's restaurants. That's his job. I'm not sure why anyone would be against this progress.

It’s just a political scam. Mike voted on behalf of ALL restaurant owners. Yes he had a restaurant and in hind sight probably should have excused himself, but he voted to keep the whole industry alive. It wasn’t a selfish vote.

City council‘s approval of Covid patios was an initiative that saved the jobs of thousands of people in this city while providing a safe outdoor dining experience. This plan likely would not have happened if we didn’t have someone experienced in the restaurant business as a part of our city council.

Thank you Mike for helping an industry with a mere 3-5% profit margin on average! Without these city patios many many small businesses would have surely gone under! We support you Mike!

Mike is a great guy and always supports the local scene. As an artist ive known him before his time as councilor, where he operated as a scout to provide spaces for small art galleries and groups. Shame on those participating in this witch hunt.

If this is a conflict, no councilor should ever be able to own property and vote on things like parks, housing development, etc that make property taxes and land value change. This is a witch hunt

But people walk about without masks and hold parties. A conflict of interest would be if he was exclusively lobbying to benefit himself only. It is absolutely admirable to try to help save all the industry. Absolute bs.
