We, the members of the Spencer Creek Area Book Club, and our neighbors, friends and family, hereby affirm with our unified voices and names here, that we are in support of a plan for the disposition of the former The Good Shepherd Lutheran Church (85780 McBeth Road, Eugene) that will transfer its property and buildings to an established nonprofit organization that is committed and prepared to develop it into a center to benefit our larger, inclusive community.

We further affirm that we oppose and disagree with any other disposition of these publicly held assets, which we believe is contrary to our ongoing sense of shared community. For over six decades this church has served our neighborhood as a meeting center and for celebrating our lives together.

Because we cannot stand by and lose the former Good Shepherd Church as an integral part of our community, we ask you to join in support of this petition by adding your name and comments to this list. Your voice will be heard by those who are responsible to make this decision, the Oregon DOJ and others.

Can I also ask you to please share with your family, neighbors and friends, as well as Facebook pages and other social media ? Thank you, most kindly !

I have spent the past few days reviewing the thoughtful comments many of you left regarding what this space meant to your families over the decades. These memories confirm that our goal is not just about a building but about preserving a hub that has anchored our neighborhood for generations. My next step involves coordinating with local stakeholders to ensure these perspectives are presented clearly to the officials who hold the final decision.

Reaching this current level of support confirms that our neighborhood truly values the history of this space. It is heartening to see so many people acknowledge that these walls have served us for sixty years and should continue to do so.

It is so important to support and maintain small community hubs, particularly in rural areas, to encourage collaborative communication and resource sharing. This allows us yo express the cultural diversity of our area, rather than having all representation centralized in the urban areas.

A wonderful wonderful place! would make an incredible community center. Building is beautiful and warm-feeling inside, with terrific accoustics - several different-sized rooms, including a great kitchen. The grounds are amazing - a genuine native Oak Savannah habitat.

This is a beautiful facility, with good acoustics, a fine kitchen and flexible gathering/seating areas. The grounds are spacious and shady. If it can be taken over by a nonprofit that fosters an inclusive community center, and that is able to support itself, it would be an asset to the community even beyond Spencer Creek.

My husband and I have attended several community events in this church building and find its acoustics in the chapel, the kitchen and the grounds excellent for many uses. Keeping this superb resource alive and available to the community is vital, especially in these challenging times.

This is a “win win” for this community!! The Spencer Creek Growers Market is gaining popularity every year! The Reality Kitchen in conjunction w/ the Market only adds depth to our community!!

I have lived in the Spencer Creek neighborhood since 1969 and have attended countless community events at the Good Shepherd Church. What a loss it would be to me, my family and neighbors!

This church has been a great local resource serving the community far beyond it's function as a religious sanctuary. Randy has been creating arts events for years, providing educational opportunities, and working diligently to use the facility as a resource for the community. I have had the pleasure of running our local plastics recycling events there, and the facility has made it so we are now a well oiled machine. The vision for this space, of maintaining it as a non profit in support of community, education and arts , is a great one and it'd be a shame to toss out this opportunity
