As a champion of Affordable Housing, Greenway Protections and Local Jobs, I support the community effort to protect the Proposed Lombard Apartments site.
I believe the property is better suited to re-enter the public domain and serve a higher common good. For too long we have put profits over people and the Planet.
We are calling on;
The City of Eugene and Lane County Commissioners support this visionary effort and stand with their constituent to encourage
Evergreen Housing Development Group in the resale of the proposed Lombard Site back to the community for the original purchase price of $850,000.00.
So that:
• a portion of this land be protected as open-space and these trees be preserved for future generations.
•a portion of this land be used to provide context sensitive affordable housing for the most vulnerable people in our community.
• and that any and all development of future affordable housing use ONLY local labor.
This is an unprecedented opportunity for collaboration and for creating a legacy that we can all be proud of.

I have been spending my days meeting with neighbors who feel the same loss I do when they look at those trees. Seeing your stories and the common vision you share for this land makes the hard work behind the scenes feel completely worth it.

Seeing this momentum grow reminds me why I started fighting for this land in the first place. It confirms that our neighbors understand the true value of those trees and affordable housing over corporate profit.

Deep-pocketed, out-of-state developers swoop into town, purchase high-quality land, build cheap and nasty dwellings, then sell to out-of-state investors for exorbitant profits, leaving our community to deal with the consequences. Eugene neither wants nor needs this project, in a time when we have so many other vital and necessary projects to pursue!
Please leave the green space green. Please don't kill the trees that have been here for decades. Please don't ruin our neighborhood with overcrowded apartments and more traffic congestion in an already congested area of River Road. There are much better places to build this sort of complex.
Accessible natural landscape and the arts of all kinds are what make places memorable and great for all who inhabit and visit them. Plowing down trees and field next to the riverfront is not a wise or popular choice from the standpoint of economic value as well as environmental responsibility. I do not approve of the use of this land for housing development and parking lots.
we have limited undeveloped space left in Eugene (especially what lies in the UGB) . As a resident of Eugene I have seen a need for affordable housing (Which this is not) as well as ecologically functioning green space (which this development would not be). We need to take every development seriously for it will impact the future of our community and planet
We need to act now to stop the destruction of this land. This process was not done with the input of the public. We deserve more public process for public land.

I believe also that there must be more setback from the waterway than has been included in the design. At the most, this site should be a tiny home community for vulnerable population, that allows for very little development, and more of nature's landscaping, habitat for wildlife and common space.
