Decision Makers: City of Cape Town

We, the undersigned residents of Lotus River, support Shalom Community Care’s application to lease the City-owned property situated at Erf 2621-RE, 392 Fourth Avenue, Lotus River.

We support the proposed use of this property by Shalom Community Care for community-focused services and activities. We believe the lease will place the property into productive use and provide social and community value to residents of Lotus River.

The City of Cape Town’s Management of Certain of the City of Cape Town’s Immovable Property Policy governs the disposal of City property and the granting of property rights, including leases. The policy requires a fair, equitable and transparent process. It also recognises public participation, the economic and community value of property transactions, and the use of City property to build strong, integrated and dignified communities.

As residents directly affected by the proposed lease, we record our support for Shalom Community Care’s application. We respectfully request the City of Cape Town to consider this petition as evidence of community support during its assessment and public participation process.

By signing this petition, each resident confirms support for the proposed lease, subject to all legal, planning, land-use, safety and lease conditions required by the City of Cape Town.

This lease is important because it will allow Shalom Community Care to continue providing much-needed support and services to the people of Lotus River. Our community benefits from organisations that care for vulnerable families, children, older persons, and those in need. Instead of leaving the property underused, it can become a safe and valuable space that brings hope, support, and positive change to our neighbourhood. I fully support this application and encourage others to do the same.

The building has remained unused for many years and could instead serve as a valuable community resource. Rather than standing vacant, it can be transformed into a safe and useful space that supports residents. Allowing this NPO to use the building would not only restore and maintain an otherwise neglected property but would also turn it into a place of purpose, dignity and hope. It is a practical example of how unused public or community assets can be repurposed to create positive change.

Communicare is playing a pivotal role within the community of Lotus River and there is so much potential in this organization. It is in my belief that the old rent office building which has been the grounds that is now currently being used by criminals and drug addicts....so why not put the grounds to use for the uplifting of the youths and community of Lotus River bringing a positive change within.

Margo Johnson is one lady that always goes the extra mile for her community members or any person that is in need..It doesn't matter if it's during day or night..Using that facility will do so much justice to her as I know that she will be able to help more people than now..etc doing counseling..help learners with their school work..that's only a few I've mentioned..but I know that the place would be a great help for her and the community
