The management finally reversed their position and we are officially cleared to decorate our homes again. It has been a long and draining struggle but I am relieved we can finally bring some light back to our neighborhood. We will keep following the rules to ensure this stays in place …

In the midst of a pandemic, residents of Villa Portofino demand that we be allowed to decorate outside our homes. In years past we have always been allowed to decorate trees and bushes in front of our homes. Decorations brighten our spirits and give our children something fun to do/look at. We need this!
Decorations to be taken down (post holiday) in accordance with the CC&R's.

Seeing this kind of momentum confirms that the need for a little extra light right now is real for so many of us. It has been a long road but this support keeps me pushing forward when the opposition feels heavy.

Always so great to see the holiday spirit within our community...now that I have children, 4 & 5 yrs old, it is a joy to see them commenting on our neighbors’ homes decorations. They do no harm to anyone and it’s a way to show share the spirit of holidays with others.
We have lived here for 15+ years and there has never been an issue with holiday decorations. I served on the VPHOA Board of Directors for 6 years and there was never a discussion about it. I hope we can undo this unfortunate and unjoyful decision.
Holiday decorations are a tradition of the season. I’m Jewish so I don’t decorate my home but I love being surrounded by them. Stop with the Scrooge attitude, Board! Especially in this sad year. A little joy is in order.
I was very sad when I got the letter demanding that I remove my Halloween decorations. They do no harm and add character and a sense of community. Please change the rules to allow decorations.
Ignoring how ridiculous this is as an issue, the cost to send everyone color photos of their decorations and then require they mail or email in confirmation they are removed is out of control.
I have been in Portofino since 1978. I have never received a letter requesting that decorations come down in "common area" . I have found discrepancies in your rules for the area in front of our house and what you call the "common area". There are certain choices you have allowed in the common area such as solar lighting going up the steps but not the decorations going up the steps. I am amazed you did not take that away because that is in the common area. Whereas a pumpkin sitting on the front porch is not acceptable. Then there is a choice that you decide whether the common area is a "city problem" or "the responsibility of the Villa Portofino residents" . If it is rats that invade our back yard from the park, then it is a city problem. If it is decorations, then it is the residence problem. If you really want the betterment of our community you would take care of our trees and the tree rat nests. Lastly the trees are not safe from a windy storm. If one fell on a house, you would call it an act of God. In reality it is an act of negligence of you following through with the arborist.

There's already depression with Coronavirus and hard enough as it is for some people. We all need something to look forward to and something to brighten our lives during these turbulent times. Please allow people to express themselves through their decorations for the holidays.
