CUNY administration has officially updated the academic calendar to include both days of Eid as recognized holidays for students. I am now working with the registrar to confirm the implementation timeline for the upcoming semester. We have confirmed our objective and will monitor the schedule to ensure full compliance.

Mayor Bill de blasio has incorporated Muslim holidays into the New York City public school calendars and CUNY has yet to do so. With so many other holidays and days off for CUNY students, it is unfair for us Muslims who only have two holidays a year, to have to choose between missing the festivities of Eid and missing classes. Sign this petition to make a change to the CUNY academic calendar and have days off for Eid.

As holidays are beautiful times to spend with family and friends. It saddens my heart to know that college Muslim students have to go through this issue every year, we also want to have a public holiday when our religious holidays come without having fear of being marked absent or missing a test.
Don't make me choose between my education and my religion. Jewish and Christian students have days off for their religious holidays within the CUNY system, but the two holidays that Muslims even have within the year aren't even recognized by CUNY. There's clearly something wrong here.
I am forced to attend college on eid tomorrow because I am only allowed 2 absences for the entire semester and I am afraid that I might need them for any emergencies in the coming months.
It really is unfair especially since I have to "makeup" a Tuesday schedule on Friday because of the days we were off for the Jewish holidays. What about my holidays? Why do I have to go to school on MY holiday? And make up a day on MY holiday? It just isn't fair at all.
It is absolutely heartbreaking that I have to to be in school for labs that day instead of celebrating with my family. But the crazy thing is that I have off today because of the Jewish holiday. We need change!
Please give Eid off!

I had to go in today to take a quiz just so I can kiss my history class tomorrow but I still have to go in for my calculus class. I literally have to choose between my family and traditions and school. This isn't fair.
