The intersection at Dornan Dr and Western Dr is extremely dangerous. Traffic attempting to enter Dornan Dr from Western Dr cannot see vehicles coming west on Dornan through the tunnel.
The easiest and cheapest solution is a stop sign for west bound traffic on Dornan at Western. The vehicles stop as they emerge from the tunnel and one can safely enter from Western. Berkeley has a stop light at the south end of the Solano Av tunnel that emerges at the busy intersection of Del Norte St, El Dorado Av and Sutter St. Traffic through the Dornan tunnel is not as heavy as the Solano tunnel and a stop sign only temporarily interrupts the flow.
An alternative would be a flashing yellow light on Dornan at Western that alerts Western traffic when a vehicle is near the western end of the tunnel. A flashing light warns traffic on Western without interrupting the flow on Dornan.
It is important and not very expensive to reduce the hazard at intersection of Dornan Dr and Western Dr.

The emails are pouring in with more stories of near misses at the tunnel. Clearly this is a bigger issue than I originally thought.

The momentum is undeniable. Richmond City Council will have to take notice of this now.

To be sure I am safe, I turn off radio, roll down window, and listen for doppler effect of sound of approaching cars from tunnel. Stop sign and light would be extremely helpful. Mirror was relatively useless, angled as it was. One slightly deaf neighbor had a nasty crash there, years ago.
Even more necessary since the tunnel 'walk' was installed which further obstructs visibility. Long over-due.
I live at 625 Western Drive and frequently turn right from Western onto Dornan Drive. It's a scary experience. Many cars come speeding through the tunnel and most cars do not turn on their lights -- although the lights help at night, but not much on a sunny day. I've had some close calls, once with a police car. I always roll down my window and listen, but you can't expect a visitor to Keller Beach to think the same way. It's a very dangerous intersection for any car exiting from Western.
I do NOT want a stop sign, but would like a flashing light...also would like cars without their lightss on would be fined, as they are disobeying headlight sign at beginning of tunnel.
I am familiar with the Solano Tunnel & agree that a stop sign is necessary here as well. It won't create undue delays & will make entering from Western safer.

I strongly urge that some means of traffic control be put in place at this intersection. I have witnessed and been in near misses as cars speed through the tunnel. Please don’t wait until a fatality or serious accident happens.
