I am requesting your assistance in improving safety at the intersection of East Vandalia Street (Rt. 157) and Halleck/Hillsboro Ave, which has become increasingly dangerous in recent years. As a resident of this neighborhood, I have noticed a significant increase in traffic and a corresponding decrease in visibility, particularly during peak hours.
The intersection is particularly hazardous due to its configuration.
There are cars traveling at high speed along Vandalia, Cars entering and
exiting "The Store" replete with multiple access points, further exacerbating the potential dangers, and a blind
spot when navigating westbound from Halleck due to a curve along Vandalia you cannot
see around.
There is an added concern for children and families who traverse this intersection on foot and/or bicycles. Additionally, the presence of a school bus stop at this very juncture amplifies the gravity of the situation. Given the large number of families with young children in
this area, I believe it is imperative that something be done to improve
safety.
I would like to request that a 4-way stop sign be installed at this
intersection to reduce the speed of traffic and improve visibility for
both drivers and pedestrians. This would also encourage drivers to be
more cautious and attentive when approaching the intersection,
particularly during periods of heavy traffic. PLEASE ADD YOUR ADDRESS TO THE COMMENT SECTION!
123 North St. This intersection is a nightmare to get across especially with the kids waiting for the bus there. PLEASE FIX IT.
