Leeds City Council are planning to build 165 houses in Colton and place a Gypsy Traveller site
on Bullerthorpe Lane all on precious Green Belt land. A link to the plans can be found here.
Residents of Colton and its surrounding areas want to prevent this happening. These plans will:
- Cause enormous pressure on local infrastructure that is already stretched
- Destroy wildlife and local history
- Ensure more and more children won’t get in to local schools
- Create more traffic and more danger for pedestrians, cyclists and children
- Leave a devastating legacy for our children
The more people who sign the petition the better - please feel free to comment but make your comments constructive - please reference concerns over wildlife, schools, infrastructure, safety, local history.

I was just looking at the total and my head is spinning because we are barely shy of that big milestone and the council needs to see that we are not going away quietly (seriously who thought building on green belt was okay). If you can just send this link to a few neighbors who might not know what is happening on Bullerthorpe Lane right now we could hit that number today and show them exactly how many of us are watching.

I just spent the morning staring at the maps on that council website and honestly it is even more frustrating than I first thought when you see the actual impact on the lane. A few people have reached out to me about the historical significance of the site and I am trying to pull together some of those records to show the planners exactly what they are thinking of just paving over.

I was just looking at the count and we are really moving toward that thousand mark which would honestly be such a huge help when we talk to the council about this mess on Bullerthorpe Lane. If you happen to know anyone in the neighborhood who has been complaining about the traffic or the schools please just send them the link because it really might be the only way we get someone to actually listen to us before the excavators show up.

The proposed development is along the lines of the old Roman Road which runs parallel to the Northern section of Bullerthorpe Lane. Pre-1900 Ordnance Survey Map which shows the line of this Roman Road. Can be found here www.old-maps.co.uk
we are concern for the traffic increase the strain on the local amenities and impact on the wild life we have a lot of bats on park road and surround areas around the green belt areas, where will they go!! Local resident meynell fold Leeds 15 0PP
Not on green belt land!! Not on the edge of a beautiful stately home park. Not on the edge of an area of existing massive development. Not in an area that is likely to see a devaluation of houses that have taken people years of hard work to be able to afford
Why are we building on greenfield sites when there are more than enough brownfield sites to build upon? Narrow minded short term solutions with no real sustainable impact for the future! Knee jerk reactions to housing shortage quotas is not the way forward.
The traffic around the sainsburys and Colton mill complex is already atrocious. The 20 mile speed limit through Colton village is barely adhered to and there has been a death due to this. Crossing the road is already a nightmare particularly with a pram.
stop overdevelopment. they do not need houses. too many appartments and houses in this world already.
I would like to object to this traveller site. This would cause an extremely adverse effect on the local infrastructure which is already struggling to cope.

Notwithstanding the adverse impact on already stretched local infrastructure, any development which impinges on the Temple Newsam estate would severely diminish the amenity of a much-used and much-loved recreational facility for the people of East Leeds.
