PLEASE NOTE: THE DEADLINE HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO 28TH MARCH 2012

I have recently received a letter from Kirklees Council outlining a proposal to build an estate of 29 houses on the two fields off Colders Lane.

As I'm sure some of you may know, this has been proposed before and rejected due to the public outcry. I am hoping this can be halted again and am doing everything within my power to prevent it. We have until 17th March 2012 to oppose this application so please make sure you sign up.

As a resident of Wessenden Head Road of over 25 years, I strongly object to these building plans.

Of the main reasons I am extremely unhappy are: Two houses have already been erected in this area and are a complete eye-sore. Most houses in the surrounding area are rather old and this new estate would be an abomination that would stick out like a sore thumb.

Also this area of grassland is the only nice bit of untainted land in reasonable walking distance. To start building on it would be such a waste, not only is it a lovely view but it is nice to see all the wildlife it attracts.

I should also imagine it will cause a lot of unwanted excess traffic in a very small built up area.

Thanks for your time.

I have been walking past those fields every day and it hurts to think about what the council is considering. People are reaching out to me with their own memories of this land and their fears for our neighborhood. We have to keep pushing because losing this space would change the character of our home forever.

Seeing this kind of support for our fields is overwhelming and gives me hope that we can stop this development again. It is clear that I am not the only one who refuses to let our neighborhood be destroyed by this unnecessary construction.

The wildlife needs that space. Why cant they renovate old buildings in town instead of destroying nature?

Just moved here for the views and the quiet. Putting 29 houses there will ruin the whole character of the area.

The roads round here cant take anymore traffic. It is already a nightmare at rush hour.

STOP BUILDING ON OUR FIELDS. Meltham is getting way too crowded as it is.

Ridiculous idea. We need to save the little bit of green space we have left before its all gone for good.
