There is a current planning application to create a 10 family caravan site for Travelling families in the Green Belt in Grappenhall, located at the corner of Broad Lane and Cartridge Lane.
One family have bought this land and obtained time limited license to stay, for 2 families for 3 years in 2009. This planning has expired and as predicted to Warrington Borough Council during the original application, a further application for development has now been submitted. The new application requests permission to site 12 caravans along with various utility buildings and commercial storage areas within the plot.
This is blatant manipulation of the guidelines set out to provision for Travellers and is taking advantage of WBC's failure to provide the requisite number of pitches out of their own selection of waste land and Brown Field sites which are much better situated in relation to shops/schools etc.
Please sign this petition to try and convince WBC against agreeing to this 200%+ expansion on existing allocation. Nobody has any issue with the existing set up, in its temporary format, but allowing 10+ families to move in is a clear attempt to create a large community while ignoring planning considerations that the rest of the non Travelling community must abide by.
Seeing this much energy behind the petition is honestly surreal because I honestly thought it would just be a few neighbors grumbling over coffee. It is clear now that people really do care about protecting our green belt and keeping the planning process fair for everyone involved even if it feels like the council just wants to ignore us.

I just saw the number hit 100 which is honestly wild because I really didn't know if anyone else would care about this corner of the woods as much as I do. It makes the whole situation feel way less lonely now that I see other people noticing how unfair this expansion plan is compared to the rules everyone else follows.

I was looking at the numbers earlier and realized we are just a handful of clicks away from hitting that first hundred mark which would be such a huge help when I finally have to sit down with the council people. If you know anyone in the neighborhood who still has no idea about the Broad Lane plans please just send them the link right now because I really think we can hit that milestone before the sun goes down if everyone just grabs one other person to join us.

TOTAL LIES. They said it was temporary back in 2009 and now look. Why does the council let them get away with this stuff???

Seriously? 10 families is just too much. It will ruin the character of the whole area.

12 caravans is way too many for that spot. The roads around there are already a nightmare during school runs. Bad idea.

Just follow the laws like everyone else does. Brown field sites only.

This is green belt land for a reason. Why are the rules so different for some people? If I tried to build half of this on my property they would have the bulldozers out in a week

Keep our green belt green. Enough is enough with the overdevelopment of Grappenhall.
