We the undersigned vehemently oppose the proposed gypsy and traveller site at the location of Mentmore Road, Linslade for the following reasons: The site is highly unsuitable given the close proximity to Tiddenfoot Waterside Park and the impact in relation to environmental concerns and wildlife, protected or otherwise that resides there. The proposed site should be used to benefit the park for residents of Linslade and the surrounding areas to enjoy. There are two state schools and a leisure centre in close proximity to the proposed site and for reasons associated with child safety and access, this should rule out any proposed type of development. There is a gypsy site less than half a mile away from the proposed site thus fulfilling any local authority obligation to provide such sites in this specific area. Under Article 10 of the Human Rights Act 1998 local residents have the freedom to hold opinions and to receive and impart information and ideas without interference by public authority and regardless of frontiers. Facts and research provided by Police and Other Criminal Justice Agencies regarding crime and anti-social behaviour associated with sites occupied by travellers and gypsies will be relied upon to counter challenge any challenges pursued under article 8 of the Human Rights Act 1998: "There shall be no interference by a public authority with the exercise of this right (Art 8) except such as is in accordance with the law and is necessary in a democratic society in the interests of national security, public safety or the economic well-being of the country, for the prevention of disorder or crime, for the protection of health or morals, or for the protection of the rights and freedoms of others." We the undersigned hope that the planning committee who make any decisions in relation to the aforementioned site take into account the words of Robert Walton, a barrister who has acted for local authorities in a series of cases against travellers: "There is no human rights method of getting round the planning system."
