The City of Corpus Christi, Texas is facing a similar situation as many cities across the nation:THE UNREGULATED INSTALLATION OF WIND GENERATION FARMS. The installation of hundreds of 400' tall Wind Mills within view of our cities endangers our quality of life, our property values, our cities ability to expand, and our environment.
The installation of yet another Wind Farm within a few miles of the Corpus Christi City limits will stifle growth in the fastest growing area of our City.
The planned Wind Farm at Chapman Ranch will cover approximately 36 square miles - over 20,000 acres - the area equal to the area from Airline to Ayers, Ocean Drive to Saratoga. This will be enough total acreage for almost 300 400' tall Wind Mills in the City's western sky. As we are all aware the Coastal Plains of Texas are extremely flat and these Wind Mills will be seen from many of the buildings, places of business, and homes with a Southwest view of the sky.
All of the new home owner's and land owner's property values in this rapidly developing area of our City will be negatively impacted. This will also negatively impact the City's and County's tax base.
Numerous new subdivisions have been planned or have been opened in this area including the expansion of Country Creek, the expansion of the Botanical Gardens, Kitty Hawk, King Estates, Knott's Landing, Lago Vista, London Estates, and Chapman Ranch Estates. The installation of this Wind Farm will negatively impact the successful economic completion of these projects.
The Texas Audubon Society and the Coastal Habitat Alliance have made studies of our Coastal Bend Area that document the negative impact of Wind Farms on our delicate coastal environment. The Chapman Ranch area is the feeding ground for thousands of Dove, Geese, Ducks, and Sandhill Cranes. Please go to the following web sites for additional information on the impact the Wind Farms have on our Coastal Bend Area and the ongoing fight for some permitting and regulation process:

Gillispie and Llano Counties and the Cities of Fredericksburg and Llano have successfully fought off the installation of Wind Farms in their area. Please go to their website for further information for the fight for regulations for the Wind Farm industry.

Petition: We the undersigned residents within the City of Corpus Christi and/or within Nueces County, State of Texas, do respectfully petition our National, State, County, and City government officials to implement the following resolutions involving the installation of Wind Generation Farms:
1). Require installation permits similar to radio and cell towers. (There are no current installation regulations in place)
2). Empower the local County and City governments the ability to create a no permit buffer zone beyond the current city limits, respective of the local terrain, to protect the City’s quality of life, property values, growth potential, and environment.
3). Require the Operators of said Wind Generation Farms to post bonds for reclamation similar to the bonds required by Operators in the Oil and Gas Industry for reclamation. (Estimated cost to dismantle and remove one Wind Mill is over $100,000.)
4). Extend Texas S.B. No. 1226 to all Counties and Cities in Texas. Empowers Texas Counties and Cities to create no permit buffer zones. (see soshillcountry.org)
5). Support Texas S.B. No. 1227 that requires the Operators of said Wind Generation Farms to post bonds for reclamation. (see soshillcountry.org)
6). Resolution from the Nueces County Commissioners Court against the construction of Wind Generation Farms in Nueces County, similar in body and content to the Resolutions passed by the Gilliespie County Commissioners Court and the Llano County Commissioners Court. (see soshillcountry.org)
7). Resolution from the City of Corpus Christi Counsel against the construction of Wind Generation Farms near Corpus Christi, similar in body and content to the Resolutions passed by the Fredericksburg City Counsel and the Llano City Counsel. (see soshillcountry.org)
8). Stop the installation of the Wind Generation Farm on Chapman Ranch, Nueces County, Texas.
The feedback regarding the proposed location of these wind turbines confirms that our community remains deeply concerned about the preservation of our local landscape. We are currently preparing documentation to present these collective objections directly to the planning commission.
October 29, 2009
The momentum behind this petition confirms that many residents share a deep concern for the preservation of our city skyline. This growing consensus serves as a clear indication that our community demands a thoughtful approach to land use and development.
