The existing wind energy ordinance did not adequately protect the citizens of Chowan County.
The planning board formed a committee which researched and presented recommendations for a stronger wind ordinance which the planning board accepted and approved to be forwarded to the County Commissioners for a vote. These in error were not put in the text form.
On August 3rd, 2015, the Commissioners instructed to send the recommendations back to the planning board to be written in the proper text format.
Instead of doing so the County Planner and her staff took it upon themselves to rewrite the entire amendment, leaving out the committee recommendations.
Aug 24 & 26 the planning board met and decided to rewrite the amendment, leaving out the recommendations in direct defiance of the County Commissioners. They then voted to submit these to the Commissioners.
This submission does not provide adequate protection for:
- Loss of property value
- Mechanical failure
- Noise, especially infrasound which is felt rather than heard
- The environment and wildlife
- Removal when the equipment eventually fails
- County regulatory expenses
SIGN THE PETITION AND INSIST THAT THE COMMISSIONERS
DO THE RIGHT THING, VOTE ON THE COMMITTEES RECOMMENDATION
NOT THE UNAUTHORIZED VERSION.
PROTECT CHOWAN COUNTY
These large wind turbines do not produce the level of electricity expected. They are ugly, will definitely adversely impact property values over time and will destroy the natural beauty of the area. Maintenance costs are extremely high as well as replacement and disposal when the useful life has been reached. Property values must be protected. These people have NO RIGHT to change the details to meet their own agenda. Go with what the county supervisors agreed to.
