Go Green and Unseen is a group in support of clean, green energy. However we have grave concerns about this project which plans to erect HUNDREDS of 900 FOOT TALL wind turbines along the Southern NJ coast dramatically affecting our towns of Ocean City, AC, Margate, LBI, Longport, Avalon, Sea Isle, Stone Harbor and more.

If this Wind Farm moves forward as planned, what was once our beautiful, peaceful ocean will become essentially an industrial park. Beach town residents will have to absorb any negative financial and environmental problems, pay higher electric rates and won’t even get the benefit of the electricity! Many consider it visual pollution and the destruction of our natural island beauty.

ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS
Rare Earth Minerals are used in most technologies today - including wind turbines. Mining them causes catastrophic environmental damage and pollutes the air, sand and water surrounding the mining site and the leaching ponds. This damage can take up to 100 years to correct and is sometimes irreversible. Most comes from China and studies have shown the mining releases toxic elements into the environment that can lead to some bone and skin cancers and cardiovascular and respiratory issues.

EMF radiation is emitted by these cables. There is no environmental impact study being done to assess the cumulative effects on residents’ health. This type of radiation has been linked to some bone and brain cancers. How will this affect our children? Our aquatic life?

The towers will vibrate which can disorient our marine life that relies on echolocation to find prey or hide from predators. This could damage our food chain.

Science has shown that in the last few decades the frequency of tornadoes, hurricanes and cyclones has increased considerably. These storms can cause extensive damage to the winmills. If they break apart or catch on fire where does the debris go? Into our ocean!

FINANCIAL IMPACTS
Our southern NJ beach towns are centered around and solely supported by tourism. These wind farms will, in our opinion be very detrimental to tourism.

These turbines start out on day 1 at only 50% efficiency and within 20 years they stop working. Then the turbines are removed from the 900 ft towers and the blades, which are not recyclable, are placed in landfills and the towers are just left to rot in our ocean. And then, Orsted will build more in the same area. Who will pay for that? NJ taxpayers?

These cables can give off pulses (shocks) that will greatly disturb bottom dwelling species that migrate in the summer. This will greatly damage our economy and ecology.

COMMERCIAL IMPACTS
Vibration and noise pollution from the windmills could interfere with our fishing, seafood, restaurant and tourism industries which could devastate our surrounding beach towns.

Businesses already compromised because of covid will suffer if and when the utilities are raised.

RESIDENTIAL CONCERNS
This project could negatively impact property values throughout the impacted areas.
