This is a petition for the citizens of Steubenville Ohio. To let the city know that we want our park back. Piece of pie park was closed last year. After many complaints not to be by Mr. Tim Boland city manager of steubenville. Now the kids are playing football in the street and are in more danger than ever. Please help us in letting the city know. WE WANT OUR PARK BACK NOW!

This is a response we received from the city after inquiring about the park.

Thank you for taking the time to contact the Parks and Recreation Department regarding the mothballing of Piece of Pie Park. The Parks and Recreation Committee of Council met on 8/26/14 prior to that evening's City Council meeting to discuss the options for the park. At that evening's council meeting it was requested a task force be formed to begin the process of mothballing the park. OnSeptember 2, the task force consisting of the City Engineer, Urban Projects Developer, Parks and Recreation Board Chairwoman, Parks and Recreation Director, Chief of Police and City Manager met to discuss the park and it's future. It was determined at that meeting we would remove all structures in the park, mothball the facility and re-evaluate the park in one year's time.

In February of 2015 the Parks and Recreation Board met with Piece of Pie Park on the meeting agenda. The Council Chairman for the Parks and Recreation Committee of Council was in attendance at the meeting, as was the City Manger. At that meeting both gentlemen felt it was premature to re-open the facility as it had not been a year since the park was mothballed. The Parks and Recreation Board concurred recognizing that when the decision to re-open the park was made new playground equipment would either be purchased or would be on hand to replace what was removed. Monies have been allocated for that purchase when the time arises.

I drove past the park last night on my way home from work to look at the status of the grass. The park is on the rotation to be mowed during the first round of mowing, which has began today. Mowing was completed at Belleview Park today. Weather permitting the park will be mowed tomorrow or the early to next week. Maintenance staff were working on the ball fields at Murphy's, Belleview and Jim Woods as well as opening the restrooms at Belleview and Jim Woods before the mowing could begin.

Mr. Kenny Davis, council chairman for the Parks and Recreation committee is willing to answer any further questions you may have regarding the decision regarding the mothballing. He can be reached at740-632-9025and has also been cced on this email. Mr. Boland, City Manager, can also be reached at740-283-6000 ext. 1100at any time as well.

Thank you for email, please feel free to contact me with any concerns you may have as well.
