Bring Back Our Independence Day Fireworks

It has recently come to our attention that the governing bodies within Star Valley, Wyoming have made the executive decision to exclude fireworks from Afton's Independence Day celebration. Instead, those funds collected from taxpayers have been allocated to purchase fireworks for a religious holiday that is NOT celebrated by the entire community. This decision was made without polling the community of Star Valley.

As patriots, we believe that our communities money should be used as it has in the past to celebrate the independence of our great nation and those whose lives where so selflessly given for her.

If you stand with us, let our voices be heard! Sign and share this petition which will be delivered to Town Hall and extended to those governing the state of Wyoming.

The petition reached 250 signatures today. I am compiling this list to present at the next town council meeting along with a formal request for a public record of the budget reallocation.

July 1, 2015

We have reached one hundred signatures which meets the threshold requested by the town council for an official review. I am currently drafting a formal request for an itemized breakdown of the budget allocations regarding the Independence Day funds. I will submit this document to the town clerk tomorrow morning to ensure our inquiry is placed on the next public meeting agenda.

The level of traction this initiative has gained confirms that our community expects transparency regarding the allocation of public funds. I am currently drafting a formal letter to the town council to outline our grievances and request a direct meeting to discuss the redirection of these resources.

I too like the heritage and the attributes that are celebrated on pioneer days. But to take the fireworks away for this national holiday is not ok. We don't need fireworks on the 24 th they belong on independence day!!!

My husband is in the military and my daughter and i had to spend a year and a half with out him. He fought for this country and this town. We need the fire works for independent day not a different day.

People already have fireworks on the 24th! Why do they need to take away from the 4th? I don't know who made this decision, but they made the wrong and have angered a lot of people, mormons and non-mormons alike.

We just moved to the valley in August of 2014. We were disappointed to find out that there are no fireworks here. We have decided that we will go to Lava Hot Springs to watch them this year.

Afton is not in Utah last I checked. These people that commented here, are right. Our freedom as a nation should be what fireworks are for. Not another states holiday. Afton, WYOMING not Afton, Utah. Geebus

I find it very unsettling that our town government would choose to celebrate an out of state religious holiday over our country's Independence Day. This is so disrespectful of every person that has ever put on a uniform and fought for the freedom of our great country.

The 24th is a "mormon holiday" as much as the 4th is a Christian holiday. The 24th is about the pioneers who settled valleys in utah, pioneers who happened to be mormon. People aren't protesting the 4th because Christians signed the declaration of independence. They are both HISTORICAL holidays. Protest all you want. But stop playing the victim and saying the mormons are taking your 4th of july.
