To whom it may concern at CU-KC:
We, the undersigned students of CU-KC, are petitioning to continue online for the entirety of the Summer 2020 trimester, up to and including finals week, due to:
1. Our legitimate concerns over the safety of students during this pandemic, and especially in regards to the rising COVID-19 cases in this county, city and state. The decision to pack groups of students into classrooms directly contradicts the message of caring and protection we received when campus was closed in the first place in March 2020.
2. We received little communication throughout this experience thus far from the administration over the plans for classes to resume, whether we would remain online or not, and so forth. At this point, nine weeks into this trimester, the majority of students have given up any thought that we would return to on-campus schooling at least until September. This was an assumption, of course, but an assumption made on lack of communication. To change this plan more than halfway through the trimester has taken us all aback. Also, to add, that in an online schooling setting, you would be informed as class began whether tests would be proctored or not. Communication is key and it has lacked.
3. To force students who have moved home to care for family, taken another job to combat the financial burden of the pandemic, and those who have lost childcare, to completely change their plans with little notice seems inconsiderate. To have students return to the school for one week and then have two weeks off before the next trimester makes housing especially difficult for many.
4. This announcement has been seen as a punishment rather than an opportunity. We have done all that you have asked. We have sacrificed our learning and are struggling. We have paid our full tuition and have not received what we have been promised. We have waited in the dark, and now we are shocked and disappointed by the actions of the university.
For these reasons and many more, we the undersigned ask you to keep finals week online, for the consideration of your student body.

I believe bringing us back to school during final exams is counterintuitive to what medical professionals are saying at this time. With cases on the rise and governments pumping the brakes on opening, and some even reversing the opening process, asking us to come back to campus seems wrong. In addition the school has not shown its proficiency in enforcing its campus policies to keep us safe. Walking through the clinic lounges on any given day you will see more students with masks of than on. I do not feel safe returning to campus
It feels unfair to have finals given in person when we haven’t taken a single proctored exam in months. Furthermore, if it is safe to be on campus to have finals why isn’t it safe enough for me to come there to use resources I desperately need to study? Examples: quiet library hours, computer lab, printers, force lab, and other activities that can be done with “social distancing” that are currently not allowed.
You can’t reasonably expect everyone to perform finals at their highest level when we have been taught through a screen for the past trimester. Given the response to shut down school because of fear. It makes no sense to abandon that logic just for finals. If you had been consistent with letting us know when we were gonna come back and how things were going to operate then their wouldn’t be a problem. There hasn’t been any transparency therefore it is not fare to take these tests in person.
The other day I went in for my class. There was no one there to take my temperature, make sure I was wearing a proper mask, or to sign a paper saying I had not been around anyone with COVID-19. My dad tested positive for COVID-19 last week. I have not been back home for awhile. BUT if I had been, I was able to walk into the school without signing the paper that we usually have to sign. Many other of my classmates did not have anyone there to take their temperature and sign the paper as well. So is CUKC really taking the correct measure to make sure ALL students are safe??
To date, I have had 2 patients cancel in clinic due to being exposed to someone with COVID-19. I am concerned with the amount of students on campus during finals week and wish to not be around even my classmates, as I am already reluctant to come to classes for labs with the rise in cases. Additionally, I have responsibilities at home that require me to be present now that our normal schedules have been disrupted and schools are closed. Having the ability to take the many finals we have all week in a familiar place knowing children are cared for and on our own time would lessen the stress from this unfortunate situation.
Hi guys I am really seeking clarity on this one, so in a time of Pandemic and against the advice of numerous health professionals, you are having 100's of students drive in from all over the midwest to be together in rooms for consecutive days to take online tests on tablets they brought from home? For non-laboratory classes that require no contact or in person instructions? And you will be the Only local University to do so, because Mizu and KU are not taking the same chances with their student's families? I know that Dr. Agocs the Academic Dean's response to these health concerns and disregard for CDC advice, was just that it's because he believes everyone in the student body is just a bunch of cheaters. So he is willing to drastically increase the risk ratio for all of our families and the entire local Kansas City area because he is unwilling to write a test that would be adequate enough to take open book. (Which as an educator is really quite silly considering that research has shown that open book tests vs closed book really makes little to no difference in class outcomes as sited in this Nationality recognized article https://www.npr.org/2012/12/13/167180405/open-or-closed-book-exams-which-style-works-best -Afshin Gharib associate professors of psychology at the Dominican University of California. ) Now don't get me wrong here, I get it. As a Credentialed Post-secondary Instructor of adults Myself, I know the frustration everyone is going through on both sides in this crazy time of Covid. Its tough! And so far the team at Cleveland Chiropractic College has been doing a great job of transitioning programs to keep the learning process afloat. I believe the administration as well as the students all deserve a pat on the back for dealing with the hand that has been dealt to everyone. Personally, I Love Cleveland U, my whole experience has been great! And no matter what platform the learning or testing is done on I am confident that I will do well. However in
This summer has been an adjustment to say the least, for both students and professors as well. Some professors have yet to come up with a organized and consistent game plan for weekly content and most students are at their maximum capacity for being understanding and showing patience in regards to classes and lack of communication. As graduate level students I believe everyone understands the consequences of cheating, whether that be dismissal or failure of boards later on. Not to mention that regardless the outcomes, we are still paying FULL tuition for half of the experience. While COVID-19 is on the verge of another large spike, this simply is not the time to test out a socially distanced campus at full capacity. At this point the cons vastly outweigh the pros of going back to campus for one week when we have already given everything/anything we have to adjust to this new ‘curriculum.’

Coming to campus for finals would add tremendous amounts of stress to me during this time period. Especially since I have not moved up to the KC area due to covid reasons and being online. If I had to drive 4 hours everyday for on campus finals, this would be unfair as I would need and like to have that time to study. My plans for daycare would have to be altered and my whole daily routine would be hectic. It would add much stress, burden, and expenses to have to do that with a months notice.
