Residents of the Butler-Tarkington neighborhood in Indianapolis hold their breath every time they drive through the intersection of 43rd and Boulevard. This intersection is blind and vehicles traveling west on 43rd must pull into the intersection to view oncoming traffic from the south. Many have experienced near misses at this intersection with vehicles traveling north on Boulevard. The concerns of low visibility and sometimes excessive speed have also led to a number of accidents at this intersection. The residents of Butler Tarkington therefore request consideration of a stop sign, to be installed at 43rd and Boulevard facing north and south. This is for the safety and security of all who live and travel in our neighborhood.

When I am driving and going west, I have to pull halfway into the intersection and still can't really see. My kids know I just gun it across when I am pretty sure it is clear. I have thought this was dangerous for years.
The truck and car (covered) also need to be moved back (south) on Boulevard. These vehicles are in the driving lane as the road curves to the right when you are driving north on Boulevard. Safety!
As a runner that goes through this intersection on 43rd, I agree I almost have to be in the middle of the northbound lane before I can see if there is oncoming traffic!! Very dangerous for both pedestrians and drivers alike.
I live on west 43rd, and have had to resort to traveling home via 46th to Boulevard or 42nd to Boulevard, and then turning onto 43rd from Boulevard. I also often do the reverse when leaving the house. I've lived on 43rd for over 20 years, and have found that trying to cross Boulevard via 43rd street is just too dangerous. I have had several near misses over the years!
I would like to be able to allow my kids to cross Boulevard on 43rd Street to go to/from Elwood & Mary Black park to play. But Boulevard is unsafe for cars crossing at that intersection, let alone children on bikes!
I'm a 43rd St resident and go through this intersection every day with my heart in my mouth. A 4-way stop would be a great relief.
I don't understand why the police aren't allowed to advise the city about bad intersections. I know I asked one. Seems kind of stupid to me.

I live on 43rd st and this is a dangerous corner. we have avoided this route home for the past few years because of the blind corner.
