To: Board of Commissioners of Moore County, North Carolina

I/We, the undersigned residents and citizens of Moore County, respect the administrative duties of the Board of Commissioners but strongly oppose placing the historic Davis Community Center up for disposition to the highest bidder following the 4-1 vote on August 18, 2026.  

We respectfully urge the Board of Commissioners to:

• Pause all proceedings to sell or disposed of the Davis Community Center on the commercial market
• Honor the historic 1951 public educational trust when local Black families procured and deeded this 10-acre property directly to Moore County. 
• Exercise authority under NCGS 160A-279 to convey or long-term lease the property to the Davis Community Center Development Council, allowing local citizens to assume full responsibility for securing private funds and grants to restore the building without taxpayer expense.  
•  Do the right thing by returning ownership and control of the community center property back to the local community it was built to serve. For decades, this facility has been a vital lifeline for our families, youth, and seniors, and restoring it to the people is the only way to honor its historic legacy and ensure its future.
